Sorry but there is no such thing as an akita inu. there is a Shiba Inu…not too good on temperment. And there are Akitas also not too good for kids. Golden Ret, Labs, Collies, Shih Tzu all have the best temperments…around kids.
Akitas are good with children if raised around them and supervised just like any other breed. Ive never met an Akita I didnt like but then again Ive met only a handful.
Before anyone jumps down your throat- Akita Inu is the “Japanese style” of Akita, the AKC does not differentiate as the “Akita Inu” has solid colours rather than Piebald Colours that the American type has

Ariana is right… Akita Inu is the japenese name for the akita… inu simply means dog in japanese.
they are very protective, especially of children in their “pack” overall they make good house pets
Ok first thing its a Shiba Inu & an Akita….2 totally different breeds however neither of them are the best breeds to have with children especially small ones. Im not as knowledgable on Shiba Inus but Iknow Akitas are not so great w small kids & other pets & can be rather aggressive towards both & strangers.
To start out, “inu” is Japanese for “dog”, and Akita Inu is just the dog that originated in Akita prefecture in Japan. In Japanese they add the inu so they won’t think you’re talking about the place. Likewise Shiba Inu is the dog from Shiba.
We’ve had 2 Akitas, and both were fine with kids. We placed pups in homes with kids where they became beloved family members.
Most Akitas are great family dogs. The problem is that they are big dogs and if they do cause problems the problems are equally big. Not all Akitas have good temperament. You need to buy from a reliable breeder.
Actually, there are now considered two breeds of Akita in all countries besides Canada and America. There is now the American Akita and the Japanese Akita. In the UK the official name for the Japanese is Japanese Akita Inu, and American are officially now know as just Akita. Other countries name them differently, in some they have Akita (Japanese) and American Akita.
So yes, there is a type called Akita Inu. I assume you are meaning the true Akita Inu? The smaller, Spitz like type that are not allowed to have a black mask? There is still a lot of confusion and so many American Akita are wrongly labelled as Japanese.
They are great with children, they are soft and gentle with them. They are also fantastic house dogs, you really can’t get any better than an Akita Inu for a house dog!

And Scroll down to section 5, the Akita (Japanese) and the “American Akita” are separate varieties Based on Coat Colour and the facial expression

It depends on the breeder(breeding for good temperment), and handler. Both theses dogs need alpha leaders, I have a Shiba, she great with kids.
