I am in biomedical research and we breed dogs for prostate cancer studies. My boss cannot look at the dogs before we sacrafice them. I manage to actually play with them before hand and then sacrafice them without feeling anything. Is this psychologically normal?

I think that is good. Why not play with them and give them some happiness. You sound like a kind human being to me. Trying to cure prostate cancer and also trying to make sure the puppies are shown love before they are put under. I say good for you.
