Easter is around the corner, please do not feed your dog chocolate. Poison by chocolate can happen quickly if your dog eat any amount, but sometimes even small amounts will show signs of poisoning within a few short hours. Please tell everyone that own a dog not to feed them chocolate, not even chocolate cake. Check out Dog Diarrhea and Vomiting

Most vets in my area still recomend very poor quality food the one I am seeing even put my dog on a food that contains ethoxyquin (sp) as a sensitive stomach diet plus the first ingredient was corn and third was pork fat.
I have an appointment on saturday to discuss a more holistic approach to vet care for my 6 month old GSD and I am sure she will bring up food. I feed raw and I know that vets around here turn their nose up at you and act like you are an idiot, at least my last one did. I am not an idiot I read books about pet food and about natural health and came up with being the best option for my dogs. I learned that dogs don’t need grains at all and they don’t digest them well, hence the huge piles of poo in the back yard. I also learned what is really in a lot of the food recomended by vets and other popular brands. Should I just avoid the topic all toghether or try to calmly let her know that I believe it is the right thing.
Thanks I am going to have to work on my tone of voice before hand I can tell but good ideas about bringing quotes and books also about asking questions about reading material she would suggest. I don’t want her to think or feel like I am trying to make her look stupid just like I don’t want her to do that to me
well tulip I have a question for you why is higly processed food recomended for pets but human doctors tell you to avoid them! My conclusion is they are not good for people or dogs! So weather it is a home-cooked or raw diet it is much better than highly processed food with half the essentials baked and processed out of them.

the ‘make it yourself’ diet presented in Wendy Volhard’s “The Holistic Guide to a Healthy Dog”, or the “Better in the Raw” type of “Know Better Dog Food”? I just want to know if anyone knows if there is more than a negligable difference in health results between the two….the first one is entirely organic but costs much more to feed a 75 lb dog than the latter one, but if there is more than a tiny difference in health results, I’m willing to swallow the cost difference and get the healthier diet for my up-and-coming Rough Collie dog. Thanks for your answers….
Oops-meant “costlier”, not necessarily “healthier” diet!!

I believe in holistic nutrition; I know that grocery food is absolutely terrible. I work in a pet health food store where our purpose is to get people’s animals off food like “Hill’s perscription, IIams, Purina etc” and I just want to have a more compelling argument.
People have argued that a high protein diet can destroy the kidneys and I need a educated come back.

Please tell me all you can.

A few Months back, we bought a shih tzu puppy and named him Tanto. when we first got him, we followed a book, and he quickly learned that the only place to pee is outside. around a month later, we got a miniature schnauzer, and named him Bowser. he too learned just fine. however, once we got Bowser, it is like Tanto forgot how to pee outside, or inside, he holds it for as long as he can and then wherever he is standing, he just lets it go. he holds it for around 20 hours before he will go. we have a huge yard for them to do their business in too. he will pee on walks however, or often he will pee in the yard so long as he is on a leash. how can i fix this?

I know that dogs seem to heal faster than people, but I still feel like I should be giving her something for pain. I asked at the vet’s office and they told me she wouldn’t need anything for pain. Why is that? I know when a woman has a hysterectomy it is a very painful experience, so wouldn’t it be about the same for a dog?
