Any Information On American Bulldogs?

Posted by: admin | Comments (3)

I’m thinking of getting an American Bulldog. I’d like to know about their temperment and if it’s reasonable for me to have one while living in my apartment. Any information that you can share will be helpful in making my decision. Thanks!

In particular really small children? If the dog is a puppy and grows up in the house with the kids should it be alright when the dog is full grown?

I am going to get a dog soon, and i was just looking for some input on the amercian bulldog. Two other breeds i am considering are the american pitbull terrier and the rottweiler. i like those two because of their loyalty and capability to defend. i was wondering if there are any similarities or major differences between those two and the american bulldog.

I was told by somebody that the Johnson-type American Bulldog was not bred to be dog aggressive like pitbulls (it wasn’t used in fights). Is it true that an American bulldog would be more likely to get along with other dogs than a pitbull?

My American bulldog is both large and energetic, but she is a sweetheart and is really good with kids. She makes a visible effort to calm down when my friends’ two year old is around, though she can’t help licking her to death. I think she transfers all the energy from her body to her tongue! So yes, it depends on the dog, but even a large rambunctious one can be gentle with kids if they are taught obedience and manners.

$50-$150 vetted. No more then the adoption price at a shelter.

There are two type of American Bulldogs, Scott Type and Johnson Type. They can range from 60-120 lbs, with the Johnson being a little shorter and lighter and the Scott being taller, with leaner muscles and is a little heavier. They tend to be clumsy due to their size and can hurt a small creature unintentionally. AB’s are a breed that need to be socialized early on. If this is done, they can be very good with smaller dogs and children. I own an one and a half year old AB, Scott Type. He’s 90 lbs. Bruno LOVES kids and other dogs but because of his size, I always watch him closely around both. Hope this helps.
