Alright, so my dog used to have a few problems, and after trial and error my vet and I decided it must have been depression. I lived in a student complex, and he just couldn’t take everything that went on there. No matter what we did, he’d poop inside. He’d eat the right amount, but never gain weight.

Anyway, for the health of my dog, and myself, we moved into a new apartment. He loves it here. He sunbathes by our porch and loves his one on one time. Anyway, he’s stopped pooping in the house and he’s putting weight back on.

My questions:
1) When can I start ‘trusting’ him? He is crated whenever we leave because of the pooping. Now he’s not pooping inside. It’s been 2 and a half weeks. How can I start giving him more and more trust? He has free run of the house when I am here with no problems, but what about when I leave? He sleeps through the night in his bed with no accidents.

2) How much weight should he gain? He’s a pug. He’s tall for a pug. He weighed 22 lbs last month, but looked skinny. Now he’s getting heavier, looks full, but not fat. What should I look for?

Yes, 22 lbs is too much, but like I said… he’s a taller and bigger built pugs. Seems to me that he wasn’t bred properly, but he’s my baby. At 20 lbs you could sometimes see his ribs. He was too skinny even at 22.

And thanks. I think I will get a puppy gate and try the kitchen for a week and go from there.
Thanks Becky! I forgot about that rule. I do remember that from when he was a puppy. He’s at a good weight now then.
