Does Anybody Out There Have A Cat With Asthma? Needing Information.. Please Read.?
ByI have two cats. One is an indoor / outdoor cat, and the other is strictly inside cat. We adopted my inside cat from another family who had too many cats and couldn’t keep him. He will be 1 year old in November. Anyway, when I first got him, I noticed after playing with him, he would breathe hard and pant with his tongue like a dog. I had never seen a cat do that prior to this one. Just recently, I was holding him and I noticed his breathing was really raspy and congested sounding. I took him to the vet, who diagnosed him with asthma and gave him a short term cortizone shot. He said if his breathing didn’t get better or got worse, to bring him back and he would give him a longer term cortizone shot. He also told me that I caught the asthma early. Does this sound right, and is there any changes I can make around the house to help him breathe better?? This is the best cat I have ever had in my life and I don’t want anything to happen to him. Any help or info is appreciated. Thanks

Sounds like the vet may have misdiagnosed. ??? If your indoor cat is coming in contact with the one that goes outside, you want to get all that FIV/FELV testing done to make sure your cat doesn’t have feline leukemia. Even if the other one appears fine, they can still carry it.

A friend’s cat has asthma. She (the owner of the cat) is keeping it under control but it was very hard work to start off with, medication frequently. There is medicines they can inhale and my friend found a baby inhaler easier than a cat one. Steroids have their use but not good long term.
