1st and utmost importantly…..MAKE SURE SHE HAS BEEN PROFESSIONALLY TRAINED TO GROOM DOGS….and I mean professionally trained….not just a quick course to learn the basics! There are too many self-taught, video taught, book taught amatuer groomers trying to open up pet salons……BAD, BAD, BAD!
I bathed dogs for 1 year and then I apprentised under a Master Groomer for 2 years before I even was considered of professional status. After that I groomed in various salons for many years before I took on the challenge of opening my own pet salon….and than many of my jobs were repair jobs from “hack jobs” caused by other so-called “professional” groomers…..(self taught amatures who thought they knew enough to open their own shops).
2nd….Check with your city or county to see what is required as far as obtaining a business license….a DBA name….contact the IRS to obtain tax id # or an EIN….check into getting an accountant….an on-hand attorny…etc…..the list goes on.
