Dog has blood wound on back, why?
ByI have a golden retriever.
The wound on her back is visible after close inspection only and it is about 3/4 inch in diameter.
Last week I washed her with anti-flea soap and I let water run on the wound thinking it would disinfect it.
BTW , the wound is red , hairs have dark red blood at the root and instead of the blood drying and falling off the wound still seems active. It is not deep but something seems to be ‘fueling’ the wound.
Other info:
The dog had flea problems and flies-on-ears problem at same time as wound.
Thanks guys.
Additional:
No fight with dog , but she might’ve got scratch from our boerboel who likes to fling his arms around and his nails can be damaging.
I forgot to add about whether her scratching aggravates the wound.

Sounds like a skin problem to me, probably allergic to the fleas and she keeps scratching at the area. Take her to the vet to be sure and for proper treatment.

did he fight with another dog?

Yeah, I agree with the first answer. She could have a skin disease, or she’s allergic to the fleas and keeps scratching the same area again and again, and so the wound can’t heal.

Maybe the flees are making her itchy and she has been scratching the wound and making it worse. get the flee repelent that you put on the back of her neck.

Okay, first things first. Lets take care of cleaning the wound. You are going to want to go to the store and pick up some Iodine. It is in the Pharmacy section and I get mine from Walmart. Go home, pour some warm water in a plastic cup and put several drops of the Iodine in the water, so it is the color of tea. Then take either a paper towel or a towel you don’t mind staining (Iodine STAINS so be careful!) and wipe the spot where he has the cut. Clean all the blood away and clean the wound. This will work to keep it clean and disinfect.
Do this 2-3x a day until you see your vet and find out where it came from and if it’s a reaction to the fleas.
Second thing to do is to cut your dogs nails. If the cut came from scratching, you will want his nails to be trimmed so he can’t inflict anymore damage to himself.
Thirdly, call your vet tomorrow or monday morning. Tell them what you found on your dog and tell them how you’re treating the dog. Ask if they suggest putting Neosporin on it to help it heal and ask if they suggest bringing him in.
I think a checkup seems to be in order just to be sure but the Iodine and nail clipping will help make sure he doesn’t keep hurting himself and the wound does not get infected. If it gets infected it will be expensive for you and painful for your pup!
