No, bullmastiff’s aren’t small dog breeds.

Bull Mastiffs get very, very big. Definately not the type of dog for someone who wants something on the smaller side.

The weight is around 130 to 220 pounds..

Never choose a dog on looks or breed. Find the BEST MATCH for your situation.
Each dog’s needs and personality is different.
Go to http://www.petfinder.com and talk to rescues and shelters. Discuss your lifestyle, needs and work with an adoption counselor to find the best MATCH for your household.
NEVER buy a dog from the pet store, or classifieds, or websites. Those are the puppy mill puppies. Big trouble!
And many of these large breeds have severe health and behavior problems due to all the bad breeding going on.
You need to find the right individual dog. For example, a housebroken adult that is quiet and good with kids, or whatever the needs are.
See http://www.stoppuppymills.org
Also remember that caring for a dog can be expensive- food, medical treatment. Make sure your budget allows it.
And NEVER chain a dog outside, or leave a dog out unattended.

i have one and he is huge. Costs about £70 per month to feed him top quality food, insurance and vet bills costs the earth and they are very very powerful dogs, not for the faint hearted or inexperianced. Think twice and then twice again before making any mastiff breed your choice of dog.

Go to a dog show and check the breed out. You will see more than one line (different pedigree, different part of the state and/or country) of adults and pups -6 mos and older.
Bullmastiff, one word, is a large breed but a well bred dog does not typically get fat. Some people mentioned as much as two hundred pounds. That is ridiculous. That’s either a poorly bred dog, an obese dog, or simply people over guesstimating a dogs weight. The later happens more often than you could imagine. I’ve had people guess that one of my skinniest (but tall) dogs weighed as much as 180 lbs when the dog might have weighed 140.
See the breed standard that was presented by two of the other answerers. Those numbers are much more accurate.

If you get a pedigree bull mastiff —–NO they do not stay small they grow up to be BIG DOGS. If you want a small, strong, stocky dog, then Staffordshire Bull Terriers (Staffies) might fit the bill. They really are big dogs in small bodies, and their size belies their strength. Why don’t you visit your local library and get a book on the different breeds of dogs. If they don’t have one they should be able to get one for you/ Or, you could visit your local animal shelter as they have all different breeds, cross breeds and mongrels, or find a breeder nearest you by contacting the Kennel Club and you will be able to see the mother and probably the father of any puppies they may have. Good Luck. Mary P

Only as big as a small horse, or pony.

They are one of the largest dog breeds. Even the puppies aren’t that small.
