How long after a dogs temperature drops will she start delivering puppies?
ByMy American Bulldogs temperature was 99.9 degrees last night. She wasn’t eating and she had thrown up a few times. This morning when I got up I checked her temperature again, it was at 101.7 and she was panting. Then I checked it 2 hours later and she was at 99.7. It says the temperature will drop before labor begins; once it drops does it stay down? My dog ate all of her food late last night which was the first time she ate in 24 hours. I tried to offer her food today but she will not eat.
I don’t have a breeding mentor. I rescued the dog from a very abusive situation a few weeks ago. I didn’t know she was pregnant but when she started putting on weight I took her to the vet. The vet said she was pregnant and would deliver around the 16th of December. The vet had told me that the temperature would drop but I didn’t know if it would go up and down. I was also told that dogs tend to avoid food when they are about to go into labor. That’s why I asked…

Usually within 24 hours.
Where is your mentor? Why are you not asking your vet?

You should probably check with your breed mentor or your vet on this issue. Why are you asking this on yahoo answers? This is not the place to come with serious questions.

Usually once it drops to 98 something, the time is very near. The temp can fluctuate & usually once the temp drops & stays consistently low you can count on puppies. Loss of appetite means nothing. I have seen some dogs eat while they were straining to have a pup, it all just depends on the dog. Some dogs do vomit in the early stages, but to be honest with you, you need to have your VET & Mentor on standby, not every dog can whelp without complications.

It is a significant drop that stays down around 98.7 – 99.0 for a few hours. Whelping should occur between 12 – 24 hours after that drop.

Why would you not know this well before whelping? Where are your breed mentors and vets?

She’ll have her puppies within 12 hours.
Put food out for free-choice she will most likely eat right before or right after she gives birth.
