I Have Asthma And 2 Kittens…?
BySo I got 2 kittens 7 weeks ago now and I love them to bits. The problem is I have asthma. I thought I would be fine with the kittens cos I’ve always been fine with dogs, but I’m not!
My asthma wasn’t great right at the beginning even but I was told I might get used to them so I gave it time, it is unfortunately getting worse and worse though. The doctor says I will have to get rid of my kittens but I am so attached to them, I love them so much.
A couple of friends have told me that it will get better with time and it is so bad because of the kitten fur and that it will get better as the cats grow up. Does anyone know anything about this subject? Are my friends just trying to make me feel better?
Any advice other than to get rid of my kittens? Thank you.

Hi Helen,
Your friends are trying to make you “feel” better. I note that you are aware of the fact that you are getting worse. Here is some basic information that will help you make the right choice.
We are all born without any allergy. With repeated exposures we develop allergies. However, we seldom develop allergies to some foods. Most frequently, people develop allergies to fur, dust, smoke and mites. This mechanism is not clearly understood.
Allergies get worse with repeated exposures. You are continuously exposing yourself. Your condition will get worse progressively.
There is one alternative choice. You can ask your doctor to refer you to an allergist. It may be possible to desensitize you but this will be time consuming and costly and there is no guarantee that it will work out.
Good luck.

All asthmatics should try the Buteyko breathing method. Not very popular in the States because drug companies have either hushed up or discredited the studies. Very popular in Australia (where it’s also been discredited, but people have ignored that, becuase the results speak for themselves) and of course eastern Europe. Takes effort, but it’s a lifelong method of controlling/eliminating your asthma wiothout drugs.
