EDIT: I apologize, I should have specified when I said “try out” the dog. As other users said, it’s not a good idea to do a “trial” with a dog as people do wtih horses before they buy them. What I meant was, see if you have a friend that has the type of dog you are looking for, and spend time with it! Also, if you do decide to get a dog, avoid pets stores like UncleBills and PetSmart and such. GO TO A SHELTER! Poodles are GREAT for people with allergies, but they are high energy and their coats take alot of maintenance. So I would not recommend one for a first time dog owner. But, I guess I recommended boxers and dobermans which are also high energy dogs (opps on my part). But their coats are extremely easy to take care of. I hope I cleared things up.
Do inhalers help you? If so, try a dog that has a short coat and doesn’t shed a whole lot like a boxer, doberman, or something like that. I would avoid anything really hairy like golden retrievers and such. But if inhalers or medications don’t help you I would try a dog out for a while before you decide. Hope that helps

I have the same problem – i love dogs but have allergies and asthma
Unfortunately it would be a bad idea to take a dog on a ‘trial’ period. It will not only make you very ill, but would also be terrible unfair on the dog if you have to give it up.
Poodles might be ok as they don’t moult, but i’m allergic to those too. It’s not the fur that causes allergies it’s a chemical in the dander.

You might want to find people who have dogs like poodles and miniature schnauzer they are all hypoallergenic and see if they make you sick. I have the same problem and my brother has a mini schnauzer and I can be around her and my friend has a poodle these dogs won’t get attached to you but you can still see if they make you sick and if you are like me you will find that out in less then an hour.

I understand your concern. Dogs are great family members as well.
So I would consider some hypoallergenic dogs and talk it over with a doctor or something!
Good Luck!
Heres a website with some breeds good for allergy sufferers!

Oh and by the way i have a few dogs, one of which is a shih-tzu and not only is she very sweet and a SUPER good dog, she is cute and hairy but has no dander issues, doesn’t shed, and is very good for allergy sufferers, and shes very cute. REally, check them out you’d love a shih tzu. I never knew untill my sister got her from santa that they are the sweetest dogs!!!!!!

You dont just “try out dogs”. You get one, you keep it, and you take care of it. Get a hypoallergenic one or a poodle, they have human hair.
