Is 8 weeks to young for a puppy to sleep in a separate room from the owner?

By admin

I normally let our standard poodle puppy sleep in a bed next to our bed, where he does fine.. except he gets up and wanders around/scratches on things which keeps my husband up. I personally don’t mind it and enjoy having him near us at such a young age, but would making a bed in another room be wrong? It’s the same room that we puppy proof at times when we run errands. Experienced answers only please.. Thanks!
thanks everyone!

yes I plan on buying a crate when I get a check in very soon (they aren’t cheap!) I’m excited about training my dog. I just get overprotective and sensitive toward the puppy whine. Every time I leave my house my heart drops! He’s already been whining less and less though.

Please just crate train your dog, it’s much easier and will work successfully for ALL Dogs.

ABSOLUTLY NOT! That would prob be better for the two of you. I would also consider getting puppy a cage so that you kno puppy is 100% safe and doesnt wonder at night and have soething fall on puppy or puppy eatng somethin in the other room where you cant hear!.. i crate my dogs until they are 2 years old after the puppy curiousity has vanished! and now the crates are still there but the door is left open and they go in there on their own! its liek their own personal room! they love it! and my mind is at ease!
hope that helped a bit

our 2month old puppy, is fine if we keep him in the bathroom for a few hours. but when he wakes up he usually needs to go to the bathroom. which can be from 2-6am depending on when he wakes up. so i get up and let him out. but now that he is up he wants to be with us.

so if i put him back in the bathroom he will whine that high pitched puppy bark whine and scratch at the door and probably chew on something. usually after i let him out I let him come in with us. because he wants to be near us.

so what i’m trying to say is

no its not to early.
you will probably experience him barking, whining and yipping UNTIL you let him be with you. which is up to you if you can handle that :P

no it is not.
actually if you are planning on having him sleep in a separate room when he is older you should start now anyways.

he will be just fine he might whine a little but that is normal.
this will also help in potty training him during the night if he is allowed to roam the house he wont mind re leaving himself in another room but if he is made to sleep in just one room he will learn to hold it over night after a while because he does not want go in his area. Good Luck

hey

Personally for me no.

thats a good idea. its training them the earlier the better. because later on its not so easy to change their habbits.
We had our pup in our room from 6 weeks. 7 weeks. 8 weeks,
But 9 – 10 weeks. Pup was in another room. close by. But separate from us. Have a bed for him and water & food if he gets hungry. Also bathroom trips will need to happen.
(they say putting a clock in a pillow under or on their bed. Reminds them of their mums heart beating. So they fall asleep easier. just what i have heard. did use this for one of my pups.

God bless x he got completely used to it.

No, he’ll be fine, he might not be happy about it and will probably whine and keep you up for a while, but he can sleep in the other room. Just remember if he whines leave him in there, because if you go get him it will teach him that whining gets him what he wants, and it will be reinforcing bad behavior.
