Is It Normal For A Dog To Have Diarrhea And Blood And Mucus In Thier Stool After Spaying?
By adminits been 5 days after the spay surgery and my dog stool isnt back to nornal. She did have diarrhea before the surgery but once i took her home she’s been having diarrhea untill I read somewhere about giving them chicken and rice for 3 days i did that and her stool actually started to thicken up. after 3 days of this diet i started to put a small amount of her kibble back in and her diarrhea started all over again. She never had a problem with it before and her discharge looks mucusy and blood streaks. My friend told me its normal for females after spaying so i dont want to hesitate and call the vet anyone know anything about this? thank you

No and I am pretty sure that the sheet of paper the vet gave you that explains what to expect clearly says blood in the stool and diarrhea is NOT normal and should warrant you taking her to the vet immediately.
why would you listen to your friend and not take her to the vet?

Did you know you can call your Veterinarian for FREE and ask these kind of questions. Much better then relying on your friend who apparently knows jack **** about dogs.
OF COURSE IT IS NOT NORMAL.
Take your dog in to the vet and take in a fresh stool sample.

I don’t think it is no. You can give your vet a ring but they will probably try and get money out of you still, better safe than sorry you should call them. Hope I helped.

I don’t think so. Sounds like an infection of some type to me.
I would at LEAST CALL the Vet and see what they say.
Better safe than sorry.

Although mine are occasionally loose after having a general anaesthetic, this shouldn’t be bloody at all and by 5 days afterwards, I’d expect mine to be at least part-way back to normal, even if still sore. Spaying is a pretty invasive surgery, unlike a castration, but this isn’t what I’d call normal, or to be expected. And it’s the blood I’d be worried about. I’d want to take a temperature reading too.
Don’t hold off phoning in about this – vets would far rather hear from you if there is a problem than you go on worrying, and the b itch maybe being in trouble.

your dog was starved before the surgery which you have to do. It is quite normal for a dogs digestive system to be up the putt 48 hours after any surgery. It can take up to 3 or 4 days after resuming their normal diet to get their system back to normal.
