My Boyfriend Is Allergic To Dogs?

By admin

I had a pitbull boxer mix and my boyfirend has asthma, he said the dog bothered his asthma and when the dog would play with him if his nails scratched him he would breakout in a red rash. I had to leave him with my dad, I love dogs is there a breed that may be less likely to cause this reaction

Some dogs breeds are more allergy friendly than others.
If your boy friend is willing to get a new dog have him go with you to find one. Dogs such as poodles and bichon friche are known for being hypoallergenic. Get to know the animal and if your boy friend is not showing any breakouts consider it.
Other things you can do is make sure your dog gets a bath at least once a month. Keep the dog out of the bedroom. Purchase and use a hepa filter. Keep your home clean.

yes. Research hypo-allergenic dogs. If your boyfriend is that sensitive to dogs, he’ll probably break out from a hypo-allergenic dog scratching him as well. You may have to do without dogs.
Edit: I noticed in another question you said you just got a kitten….
“he said the dog bothered his asthma and when the dog would play with him if his nails scratched him he would breakout in a red rash.”
Did he just SAY he’d break out in a rash, or would he actually do it? If he just says it, ditch him.

Shitz-tzus (excuse my spelling) I know have hair not fur but I also know that people are tipically allergic to the dog dander. Try to find a dog that is dander free. Of course there are hairless chuwawas but people are usually turned off by them and their hairlessness. I think pekes are good but I’m not 100% sure about them. The others I am sure about.

As someone with severe allergies and asthma, I can tell you from my personal experience that there isn’t one. Even the chinese crested make me breakout in hives. Poodles. Labradoodles. All of them. However, despite that, I feel that having them in my life is worth figuring out how to manage my allergies and asthma. I have two pitbull/mastiff mixes. If I hug them with short sleeves on, I end up with huge, puffy hives that itch for hours. So I wear long sleeves most of the time (except when we’re hiking and I just make sure that I don’t hug them on the trail). I use preventative asthma meds as well as my emergency inhaler plus I take a benedryl every night before bed. We have air filters in every room and the dogs sleep on their dog beds next to our bed instead of sleeping with us. I found that over time, the allergies would lessen (with the exception of the hives so no skin contact). Totally worth it to me to have that bully love in my life and so beneficial to my children. Because I stuck it out with cats and dogs, they were both allergy free. I would say that you should wait it out with your boyfriend before you get another dog. You don’t want the same reaction every time. If your boyfriend isn’t willing to work on solutions than he’s not as in to dogs as you are. There isn’t a dog breed that isn’t going to set him off if he’s allergic. I would get fish.

I have the same problem with cats AND dogs. I LOVE dogs and I finally came across one that does not bother me….she is a malti-poo. (Maltese/Poodle Mix)
Many mixed “designer” breeds claim to be hypo-allergenic. Such as the Labradoodle (lab/poodle mix…very cute by the way).
Check out this site for hypo-allergenic dogs:http://www.dogbreedinfo.com/allergy.htm
This is another great website with suggestions as well:http://www.allergyescape.com/hypoallerge…

Contrary to popular belief, dog hair doesn’t exactly cause allergies. It’s usually dander — tiny scales from animal hair, skin, or feathers — that gets people wheezing. Dust and pollen often hitchhike on dander, making it even more allergenic. Some people are also allergic to dog saliva or urine.

Don’t let anyone tell you that a breed is hypoallergenic, all dogs shed and all dogs will trigger allergies. There may be some breeds that will trigger it less. However if a shorthaired dog like a pit/boxer triggered it than there may not a better breed.

No. Especially if a small *scratch* causes a rash. All dogs have dander.
My choice would be to not have that boyfriend. Boyfriends come and go— a dog will stick by you forever.

9

Bag the boyfriend! There are lots of guys that aren’t allergic to dogs, and your dog will love you unconditionally forever.
He sounds like kind of a pansy anyway.

10

Go get your dog back from your dad’s. Tell your boyfriend to take a Benadryl and “MAN UP”!!!
If he (your boyfriend) doesn’t like it, kick him to the curb.

Chinese Cresteds
poodles
Portuguese water dog
These are just some dogs that don’t shed a lot. Ive heard of some people who grow out of allergies after being exposed so much too. so maybe that will help.

If you bathe the dog frequently that should keep the dander down and thus help with the boyfriends allergies and asthma.

13

No, your BF can get a monthly allergy shot for the dog allergy.

14

you can get a 1/2 lab 1/2 poodle poodles don’t shed. this is a great mix for people with asthma

Poodles according to my vet have no dander! Ask your Vet about it!
