I have an adult doberman pinscher who is trained to attack if someone comes within 15 feet of me. It was on a leash and I was taking for a walk. I look over my shoulder and see my neighbors kid who is 7 right now riding his bike. He was about 30 feet away when he stopped the bike. I said to him these exact words meanwhile my dog NEVER liked him in the first place idk why: Dont come any closer Please its for your own good. Meanwhile Im backing up and my dog is looking at him dead on not yet barking or growling. So he says: Ooooooh a puppy and he starts walking towards me slowly. I say No please it will attack if you get any closer. Its a trained guard dog. Please go back to your bike. So he breaks into a run towards my dog and the dog starts to growl when he hits 20 feet. At 15 it is barking. Meanwhile I have the leash really tight at its collar and am turning its head away. So he comes up to about five feet and the dog literally breaks the leash strong dog and just nips his abdominal area. The dog only bit lightly its trained to only bite full force on adults and doesnt break the skin. It leaves a bruise the size of a baseball though. The kid screams and gets on the bike and rides away crying. I yell to him Im so sorry. I warned you many times.
Now Im afraid that the dog will be put down or something. What should I do. The parents havent contacted me about it yet and Im getting very anxious.

If your dog was truly trained as a guard dog he would only attack if you asked him to.

They can sue you they can put your dog to sleep and if it was really severe they would charge you with about a 2500 dollar fine AND still put your dog down.
The fine is for child abuse none of this can happen if they dont press charges.

Hi
You can only wait and see if anything comes of it. In the future muzzle the dog. Regardless of the circumstances it is your responsibility to have the dog under control at all times. You cannot expect a child to display common sense.
Best of luck

You told the child multiple times to stay away. This sounds awful but its the kids own fault he got bit. He should have listened to you. I believe that dogs only get put down if they make a person bleed when they bite. If the parents contact you tell them that you said multiple times to stay away but he ran towards you anyway. Explain that you are very sorry for what happened and you will make sure that that doesnt happen again even though it was the kids fault. It wasnt your fault so dont worry too much about it. Your dog wont be put to sleep. I hope this answer was helpful and made you feel a bit less anxious.

I have a feeling most of this story is extremely untrue.
As to answer your question…the consequences are you might have to put him down you might not depends on how far the parents want to take this thing.

It does not sound like your dog is a good trained dog because if he was he would have waited for a command and obeyed it. I think you are in at fault and your dog will pay for it.

Its a Doberman Pinscher You should have picked it up.
Honestly your story doesnt sound like it actually happened. If it did you could argue that you warned the kid many times but you are ultimately responsible. You should have the dog muzzled if it is trained to protect you. I dont think you need protection on your walks and a muzzle is easy to take off if you do.

Young kids will always lie about things that hapen to them. Dont worry. Just explain to the kids parent. If the kid denies it tell the parent that hes lying even if its direspectful and see what happens. Youre dog will not be put down but you MIGHT get charged. If you did warn the kid tell them that it wasent the dogs fault that hes trained this way. Tell his parents hes willing to show them that anyone that starts to walk towards him will attack. Even though this is a dangerous act You might have to put him in a wired cage strongly and show them that. Try everything top persist them it wasent ur fault. Next time muzzle him.
Hopes this helps : :

If it broke the skin you may have to confine it for ten days and show proof of its rabies vaccine. First bite not to much will happen but it will go on a list and if it keeps happening then you will have a problem. You said it was trained it should not of attacked without a command to do so. You need to check who trained it and it needs to be retrained this is inappropriate behavior for a trained dog.

I would be anxious to. I had a situation where my dog bit someones Husky puppy when he came running into our yard on a retractable leash. We paid them 300. 200 for the vet bill and 100 for the inconvenience. The kid should know not to come up to a dog unless they ask and are given the okay. I would have continued walking with the dog but because this did happen you would be responsible for the dog biting the kid. Unfortunately the dogs are the ones that get the bad rap even if the dog was put in an uncomfortable situation. I would wait to see if you here from the parents. You might get something from animal control. The best thing to do is just wait and hopefully you wont here anything.

That dog should be put down whoever trained it was a moron.
Not that I believe that story. Dobes are smart but in attack mode dogs dont distinguish between adults and children.
Doberman Pinschers have sharp teeth: no way did he nip the kid on the belly and only leave a bruise.
I assume youre an adult. That means youre responsible for what happened. The victim was a child children are legally not responsible. Plus you had the dog in public space and lost control of it.
A responsible trainer would have taught the dog a command to stand down from attack mode. No responsible trainer teaches a dog to use perimeter judgment around the handler thats insane. How does your mother hug you? Does your spouse have to wait till you lock up the dog before touching you? Thats insane.
Put that dog down at once or hand him over to a professional for retraining before he kills someone and you go to prison for it.

If your dog was truly a trained attack dog he would have listened to your commands and not attacked a young child. This is what happens when an untrained handler thinks it will be cool to have an attack dog. You telling the child to back away would make the dog even more excited as he will sense your tension you should have walked the other way and settled the dog down.
You may well lose this dog and it is your fault. No one will hold a 7 year old child responsible and for you to say he just nipped the child is just ridiculous.
Why do you think you need an attack dog this is a huge injustice to the dog. Shame of you for taking a dog to a public place when you cannot control the dog it is a ticking time bomb. If you get away with it this time it is just a matter of time before some really serious injury is caused.

Its your obligation to keep the dog under control at all times. A child does not understand dont come any closer . You are liable for any medical expenses and possibly more in this case. If your dog has no off command you should not expose him to the public ever. Being protection trained is no less dangerous than having a loaded gun on a table and telling that 7 year old no dont its loaded.

Usually TRAINNED attack dogs attack only on command even police dogs.Police dogs live with their masters family and loves their kids. They are trainned to attack only on command.
No matter what your dog is trainned to do protect show dogsor tricks they are trainned on command to do whatever it is they are trainned for.
If the dog was trainned to always be in the attack mode that is really bad for you and the dog then I would suggest that you exercise the dog where you KNOW people will not be.
You can be sued and your dog can be put down.

You dont have a trained attack dog you have an aggressive dog. A trained dog will only attack on command.
If your dog is so uncontrollable and dangerous when out in public why doesnt it have a muzzle on. If I was the parent of that child I would be definitely asking these questions.
While the child did not heed your warnings as many children dont you are completely at fault in having an obviously aggressive and uncontrolled dog in a public area without taking the proper precautions of a muzzle to prevent a bite and a strong enough lead that cant be broken by a dog pulling.
You will be lucky if your dog isnt destroyed.
