my dog has a small sore on her head that won’t heal, any suggestions?

By admin

We recently (about two months ago) got a c**ker Spaniel from the pound. About a week after we got her, this very small sore showed up on top of her head. We figured that it showed up from rough play with our other dog. It’s been all this time and it still hasn’t healed. It keeps bleeding. She doesn’t want me to touch it, and the skin looks pink and great. There is no puss, or signs of infection She doesn’t have a fever (I took her temperature). Tonight, when she was all by herself, the sore opened up again. It’s in a difficult place for a dog to scratch (about a half an inch above her eyes, in the middle of her head). Should I take her to the vet, or try treating it with some vitamin E and the e collar? Any advice/suggestions would be great! Oh, also, no tick incidences, and no fleas.

Yes you should take her to the vet. The fact that the sore has been there for a long time and refuses to heal, it may be a malignancy and it should be tested and diagnosed by a vet.

She needs to go to the vet. Especially if you haven’t taken her to the vet since you got her. She should get a good check up anyway, even if it wasn’t for the sore. It might be ring worm too and that is contagious so you’ll want to get it fixed before she passes it on to your other dogs.

Good luck and good choice on getting a pound puppy!!

Hi

This warrents at least a call to the Vet, to ask for their recommendation. Without seeing a picture of the wound, it would be difficult for anyone on here to hazard a guess. It’s quite possible for their to be an underlying cause, given the duration of this sore. For future issues, small sores can aften be treated effectively with bag balm, antibiotic ointments, or even listerine. The listerine treatment came from one of my favorite Vets, who also recommends it for treating minor cases of Alopecia. It works. Go figure.

Best of luck,
Rebel

My Granny actually had a c**ker Spaniel for 12 years and once he got older, he developed a bunch of sores that bled. When she took him to the vet, it turned out to be warts. They are very common among c**ker Spaniels and are usually harmless. I would still go to your vet to make sure that is what is going on. Then, they can give you medication that can help out your pup! Hope everything works out! God Bless! :)
