Reversing Sneezing perhaps? (yes, it’s really called that.. and is common in several breeds but can be found in almost any)http://www.peteducation.com/article.cfm?…http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1UyBrb0Hh…http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IXxRW9d_0…http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OnCTBj_jY…
Every dog sounds slightly different, but these are a few variations.. first one is a smaller dog, last 2 are larger..

sounds like a reverse sneeze to me, my shih-tzus do this every once in a while. If you cover their nostrils for a couple of seconds it will force them to breath out of their mouth and will stop the episode. http://www.veterinarypartner.com/Content…

Sounds like a hair caught in his throat. They can’t pull it out so they cough.

It sounds like the condition known as ‘reverse sneezing’ and is an irritated or weak trachea.
It is best not to use a collar on such dogs, but only a harness.
There is no cure for it, and not to worry unless it becomes debilitating. At that time, it can usually be surgically repaired.
Here is a site that explains the condition: http://www.malteseonly.com/trachea.html

my dog did that also. Your dog may have congestive heart
failure Does he have cough when this happens?

It’s called reverse sneezing. You should not have to worry about it until it becomes so bad that he cannot stop or does it very often. Most dogs who reverse-sneeze do it when they are tired or excited.

sounds like a soft palet, ring your vet and ask if your dog may have that.2 of my dogs do it and the vet said it was that.it sounds as tho they are choking,i massage under the neck til they stop.dont know what your dog really has but ask anyway, and if it is ask why and if anything can be done and does it affect the dog at all. etc.let me kno how it goes.

probably coughing

My mum’s dog does the same thing. What breed is he? Some breeds are prone to a floppy soft palate that can hang down and obstruct their breathing.
There’s nothing to worry about as long as their tongue and gums stay pink. This means they are getting enough oxygen. If their tongue and gums start turning blue or gray, then get them to the vet asap or try mouth to nose resuscitation(sounds a bit gross, but you could save your dog’s life!)
A trick we sometime use is to block the dog’s nostrils – we just pinch them shut with our fingers for a few seconds. It sounds cruel, but the vet actually recommended it, because it forces them to take a big mouth breath, which can force their soft palate back into the right position.
Also, keep a record of whether it happens when you are around a particular grass or chemical – ie when you have just mown the lawn or hoovered. It may be an allergy to something.
