My Dog Will Not Eat Dog Food?

The best option would be to take your dog to the vets for an exam, booster vaccs, and make sure they check the teeth good. Dogs teeth can have a huge affect in how much they will eat- if their tteth or gums hurt from say an infection up in one of the teeth, they may not want to eat. You may want to try mixing the wet food and dry food together and slowly remove the wet food as he gets used to eating the food. Canned foos really isn’t all that good from them anyways, but sometimes you have to give it to get them to eat. The vets office sells Hill’s prescription i/d canned dog food, which is really bland and easy on their stomachs- almost every dog will eat it, so maybe try buying a can and see if he will eat it. Otherwise, we always recommend either boiled chicken and rice or boiled hamburger and rice. Maybe if you mixed these combos in with the food your dog would eat it. I think the problem isn’t the food. It’s his teeth. They’re probably infected and he might even have abcesses in his gums from the infection. It just hurts too much to eat. Get him to the vet for a dental cleaning. For now, give him canned food that is mush. You can soak dry food and make a gruel out of it for him. He really needs his teeth taken care of though. If their mouths hurt, alot of dogs just won’t eat.

My grandmother had a toy poodle that never ate dog food. She gave him hotdogs and cheese until I made him this mixture and he started to eat it and was much more lively after that.

First have the dog checked at a et – a sensible precaution when you get a new animal anyway, but you need to check that this dog doesn’t have dental problems that are stopping him from eating.
As people have suggested, you need to wean the dog on to a high quality proper dog food very slowly. Do you know what he was fed by the previous owner/shelter? Start off with this and just add literally a teaspoon of dog food mixed in with it. Add a teaspoon of the dogfood and take away a teaspoon of the old food with every meal – gradually so your dog doesn’t notice the difference. If he’s losing weight, just find something that he will eat first so he gets a proper meal, then you can start to wean him off it.
Do get him checked tho, or you could be wasting your time trying to get him to eat!
