Puppy is sick seeking suggestions?

By admin

3 weeks ago we bought a momma poodle and her 3 babies from a local breeder going out of business. The female Dam is a very nice looking dog, and the babies were 10 days old when we purchased them. They are now 5 weeks and we had one die the other day. They appeared healthy and fine, then all of a sudden the largest one became sick. We thought our 2 year old hurt the puppy, and we felt really guilty, however 2 days later the smallest puppy in the litter is presenting with the SAME symptoms, difficulty breathing (constant gagging motion), foamy/buggary discharge from nose, and she has a constant cry muffled in her throat. Her bowel movements are solid and she has not vommited. I intend to take her to the vet in the morning, but since this is #2 with the same symptoms I just wanted to see if any one else has experienced this before.

i don’t know.
it might be that they need to get some shots.

your best bet would be to go to the vets and see what they say.

I would take the pup to the er vet. Hard to tell what kind or resp bacteria are gettin to your pups could be kennel cough and that does kill…..you might be able to save the pup if you get to the emergency vet

Definitely go to the Vet ASAP. Did they have all their shots?

obviously the person you purchased the dog through is not responsible. so appearing and actually being healthy are going to be two very different things.

this is strange at 5 weeks. if it were some sort of virus picked up from mom at birth i would think the puppies would have died sooner.

if the best you can do is vet in the morning all you can do is keep the puppy as comfortable as possible. try holding the puppy upright with it’s back feet below it’s head. this could allow it to breathe easier.

i understand 2 year olds are quick, so could the toddler have possibly fed the puppies something toxic? or could they have gotten into it on their own? it’s a good idea to take a look around where the puppies have been allowed to go.

if they’ve been outside they could have been exposed to who knows what. since mom’s vaccine status is probably more than questionable you have no idea what if any antibodies she has been able to pass onto the puppies.

a vet as soon as you can is going to be the only way for you to know for sure.

i would suggest you at least contact and call a 24 hour ER vet now and see if they have any suggestions until morning.
