Red Skin On Belly Of My Dog?
ByMy dogs belly is bright red in the area between her legs wear there is no fur. I have ad her to the vet and they said it is not an infection. They give her meds, it clears up and then after the meds are done it comes back. We have changed her bed and we are trying to change her food. Any ideas??????

She obviously has an allergy…. is the area between her paws, red as well? How about under her chin, and around her nose and eyes? This sound sooooo much like my Benny (half rottie/dobie) with grass, and his nose itched so much he’d rub it until it bled. the cure was to get rid of the grass. And baths to rid him of the offending grass pollens. All of his bedding was as well washed, and he was restricted off of the grass. Immediate cure.

If it isn’t grass, change his diet to lamb and rice that you yourself make. See what happens for a week. Be sure he has a bath before you start (food particles may be in his fur) What you have to do is become a detective and keep a log. Then slowly add things to his diet. There are non-allergy pet kibble out there. I would not suggest the “raw” thing at all…. really asking for problems.

What meds did the vet give you? For allergies?
My dog had similar to that… his belly and his back by his tail. It turned ouot to be A flea. He was so allergic to fleas that one flea would turn him red and his hair would fall out. Frontline to the rescue! It was the only thing that kept that from happening!
Call the vet back and ask him too.

What are you feeding her? she might be allergic to the food. Also if she lies outside she might be allergic to the grass.
Check out the ingredients in her food.

It sounds like an allergy problem, and you’re following the right lines by changing her environment and food.
It could be a contact allergy to something in her bed, or the detergent it’s washed in. It could also very well be a food allergy, these are more common than most people realize.

Meantime, you can relieve the itching and make your dog more comfortable with some soothing cream/salve/spray containing hydrocortisone. There are also natural products available, and food supplements that can help maintain a healthy immune system and reduce allergy problems.

Sounds like chaffing. . .could be allergies. Try rubbing some .1% cortisone on it, for a few days. I have a pug who is prone to allergies and chaffing. But she also had a staph infection on the skin. She has issues (lowered immune system).
No problems after we switched to Solid Gold kibble, and after we were done the antibiotics. She is a little tubby in those places, so anywhere warm and moist, she gets chaffed.
Also vet may recommend benadryl for itching.
A good salve is Bag Balm (antibacterial).
