Should I be concerned about my pit bull/beagle mix puppy?
ByI adopted 2 mixed breed puppies about 3 months ago (they are now 6 mo.), a female and her brother, who is now with my sister. I strongly believe that they are pit bull/beagle mixes because of their size (small), coloring, and general body stature (I googled for images, and they are dead on). The female (Sophie, black and white) more closely resembles a pit, while her brother (Simon, black/brown/white) looks more like a beagle and sounds like one to boot. So far both puppies are very sweet with people and other dogs and have shown no aggression except with each other (sibling rivalry perhaps). I just can’t help being a little concerned about the possible pit bull background. Does anyone else have a pit/beagle or just pit mix who could maybe relieve my concerns. I have Sophie in obedience training and she is doing very well. Is there anything I need to watch for in her behavior? Any advice you could offer would be great. Thanks!

somtimes it happenes in all animal siblings they are not like humans they dont want to stay together their whole life animal are perfectly happy being seperated from sibilings but if an animal likes its sibiling it dosent mean its odd but sibiling agression is perfectly normal

I will tell you the same thing I tell everyone else….there is no such thing as a bad dog…just bad owners….if you train her, socialize her, exercixe and play with her(like you should with any dog of any breed) then you should not have any problems…..dogs are products of their owners…..just like kids are products of the things their parents teach them…..you are on the right track, keep it up and you will have a great dog…..

I don’t have a mixed pitbull dog. Although I have a pure bitbull and a pure beagle. I think some of the news I hear about pitbulls are exaggerated. Yes, they can be mean, I guess, but I think a lot of dogs can also be mean. I just think that most of it is because of their training. Our pitbull is rather nice compared to the ones I hear about. I used to have a shih tzu – although he died due to an illness. But my shih tzu would really go near our pitbull and play with her. I usually allowed them to play especially when my pitbull is tied to a post – not that I don’t trust her, it’s just that she’s so large compared to my shih tzu, I didn’t want her to accidentally step on or fall on him. She was loose one time and the both of them just kept on running around, she was not harming the shih tzu. But they used to be good friends. My beagle right now is a bit nervous – easily gets scared, so she doesn’t really goes near to the other dogs. Although one time, she was curious enough to smell and go near our pitbull while the pitbull was tied to a post, and they just smelled each other.

As long as your properly train, socialize and care for Sohpie any Pit in her should make no difference whatsoever. We’ve had pit mixes (and a pit dwarf!) at our shelter, and never had any problems with their behavior.
The behavior with her brother may be related to young dogs “resource guarding” (they don’t want to share their food, toys, etc.). Training can alleviate most of this problem.

We have 2 pit bulls, and they are great dogs. Just make sure to socialize them a lot with other dogs when they are young. I mean a LOT. Pits are great with people, but sometimes have aggression issues with other dogs, but you can prevent it! Just love them as you would any other dog! Ignore the name, they’re not any different.
