Posted by: | CommentsI have a foster golden retriever who started having seizures. He started pheno yesterday morning and just had his third dose this morning. He seems to have some of the expected side effects – sedation, loss of coordination, very weak hind legs, thirst. I’ve been having to lift him up the porch steps and half carry him to the door to put him out for a potty break. How long does this usually last? Also, he refuses any food or treats. He wouldn’t even take a bite of cheese or steak. Is this normal? I’m worried about the poor guy. He’s such a sweetie and this is breaking my heart. (It’s not as bad as the seizures, of course.) I’d like to hear others’ accounts of starting their dog on pheno.

Posted by: | CommentsCan I trust the 1800petmeds type of places to get medication? Also, do they offer prescriptions anyway? I have a five year old dog (maltese/shiatsu) that I have had since he was six weeks. He gets a urinary tract infection about once every six months. I want to just get him medicine. Every time it happens, my vet wants to run all the tests on him that we have already run (it costs 1000.00 each time). I just want to get him the medication he needs and get him on it without all this extra expense every six months. His blood work, urine samples, xrays and any and all tests come back completely normal. He is eating fine, drinking fine. I just know he has another infection because he strains to pee and when he does, it is just drops of blood. Three days on an antibiotic and he is fine (even though I finish it out). Any help would be appreciated.

Should i bring my dog, he is pretty calm and doesn’t really bark alot, i just was wondering what would i need to keep him happy and safe, and what do i need to know about camping with dogs? ive never takin a dog camping before…so yeah…thanks.
Why don’t more people know about genetic health testing?
Posted by: | CommentsWhy isn’t the knowledge of OFA, BAER, CERF and brucellosis testing in breeding dogs more common? Why don’t more puppy buyers know about buying puppies from health tested stock? People spend so much time researching a plasma television, but don’t know the difference between a good breeder and bad. Why aren’t there more books on this topic!? Drivin’ me crazy! I’M considering writing a darn book on this.
If I have to how do I calmly speak to my vet about nutrition?
Posted by: | CommentsMost vets in my area still recomend very poor quality food the one I am seeing even put my dog on a food that contains ethoxyquin (sp) as a sensitive stomach diet plus the first ingredient was corn and third was pork fat.
I have an appointment on saturday to discuss a more holistic approach to vet care for my 6 month old GSD and I am sure she will bring up food. I feed raw and I know that vets around here turn their nose up at you and act like you are an idiot, at least my last one did. I am not an idiot I read books about pet food and about natural health and came up with being the best option for my dogs. I learned that dogs don’t need grains at all and they don’t digest them well, hence the huge piles of poo in the back yard. I also learned what is really in a lot of the food recomended by vets and other popular brands. Should I just avoid the topic all toghether or try to calmly let her know that I believe it is the right thing.
Thanks I am going to have to work on my tone of voice before hand I can tell but good ideas about bringing quotes and books also about asking questions about reading material she would suggest. I don’t want her to think or feel like I am trying to make her look stupid just like I don’t want her to do that to me
well tulip I have a question for you why is higly processed food recomended for pets but human doctors tell you to avoid them! My conclusion is they are not good for people or dogs! So weather it is a home-cooked or raw diet it is much better than highly processed food with half the essentials baked and processed out of them.

Posted by: | Commentsi am an asian my self when i went to the markets to buy some fruit i saw a big line i was curious and i saw dead cat and dog everywhere the mass caged cats and dogs were everwhere blood and urine all mated on their fur i asked a shopper what was going on he said their ws a sale of felines ans dogs everywhere going directly to restraunts and people who wanted to buy them and i wished i could save them but then i felt sorry for this poor little kitten that was really weak and skinny and i asked the man who was selling them i would like that small cat by the left he handed it over to me and he said the will be 2 yen and im like thats all thats really cheap and i called my little cat lucky because i saved him before he could end up onto someones dish so i done a little really good look and found this site http://www.dailymail.co.uk/pages/live/articles/news/worldnews.html?in_article_id=445260&in_page_id=1811

I am thinking about getting a Maltese? What should I know about these dogs? Like behavior and health, etc. I have looked at breed info sites but I think people who have had them are much more help.
