Best family guarding breed?
Posted by: | CommentsI’ve grown up with Doberman’s (my father bred them) and although I love the breed I find them to be a bit too mad and energetic for our household.
We want to get a dog with guarding instinct as our family pet (with small children). We both love big dogs and are very competent at training and being able to handle a large breed.
I know all about the Doberman, and have looked at the top ten guarding breeds lists – but I need to hear it from real people who’ve owned these breeds.
Rotties, GSD’s, BullMastiffs, Dogue de Bordeaux, Great Danes…
Are they good with children?
Would they lay down their life for you, the way a Dobie would?
How energetic are they?
Male or female make a difference?
Thank you for your dog experiences – so interesting to read!
And to that one person (there’s always one!) I didn’t mean literally die for me – in the rare instance anything bad were to happen, its just nice to know your dog would rather die than run off and leave you to get savaged. That’s devotion, and I’d do that for anyone in my family, so I expect my dog to be the same

want your opinions on what you think the best bull mastiff x is and reasons why please?
Posted by: | Commentshi im looking for a bull mastiff x puppy to purchase at the moment i have an idea what id ideally prefer the x to be but i don’t know a hell of alot about these dogs ive had english staffordshires all my life lol.
reason for wanting a change in breed of dog is because i mostly live alone with my young kids for weeks at a time someone tried breaking in a few weeks ago i want a guard dog to protect us but to also be a loyal companion to me and my kids the dog will be well cared for staying inside majority of the time!
I want the dog to be as big as possible so no x with kelpie ETC lol only large breeds but safe breeds because of my kids! (i don’t want a drooling dog type)
This is why i am looking into mastiffs apparently they fit the description of what i want from what ive been told and researched loyal protective not aggressive to kids!
the pup will be joing 1 other family dog as well a spayed female staff (hopeless guard dog lol)so people please whats your opinions and why?
hi i dont want a purebred thank you would rather provide a home for one of the many x dogs that carless people out there create!!(im a registered english stafford breeder so i get touchy on the subject) oh i cant stop the over breeding so why not provide a home for one???
im not stuck up i dont have to have a purebred dog and anyway they have more ailments anyway so people please keep your opinions to yourself thanks.
if i wanted a purebred i would have said so thanks all for the answers anyway.

We bred Standard Poodles this year and made a donation to a Fine school. 6 puppies will be trained to become Guide dogs. Is it important to breed Standard Poodles in order to better the breed… Temperament, size, color, all of these things are important for the show ring.
Service dogs are just as important? yes or no…
If making labdoodles doesn’t prove the dog wont shed then why make them?
If the blind person cannot see then why not send the school a purebred Black standard poodle with a white goatee?
WorkingPoodle@yahoogroups.com
Yes tests on the poodle breed and EVERY OTHER BREED is soooooooo important! Look at the $20,000.00 that is spent on each dog with their training schools.
Breeding to Standard is important in my book Temperament is No#1 in our home.
Yes we will see early 2010 if our puppies each have their own blind person to Guide.
It must say something about the mixed bred dog if the school we donated to required AKC registration paperwork. Why would another school mix breed dogs if it is proven the oodles and mixpoos shed….. backyard breeders should watch the rescues their puppies are landing in…
Why are mix bred dogs landing in shelters? WHO IS BREEDING THEM?
Breeding dogs … should only be to STANDARD.
We donated this year because we met a woman who uses a Standard Poodle Guide Dog. Allergies demand the purebred Poodle in the work place for guide and service work.
The school we donated to asked us for 6 puppies. we don’t breed for the schools. But , I am sure we will donate again.
what is best for the service dog owner should be what’s best for me and you too?
this is really just a topic…….. answer what you want to answer too…

This question deals with Guide and Service dogs… Health / conditions/ allergies….
