If you have mild food allergies wouldn’t cutting them out completely put you at risk for a more severe reaction from accidental contact? I’m allergic, but only mildly, to corn, wheat, peanuts, and almonds. Seriously, I had no clue I was allergic until I got allergy testing for my asthma and was given a skin prick test to determine my allergies (I’m allergic to trees, grasses, molds, dust, cats, dogs, pollen, smoke, etc…) and those foods I mentioned, but the allergist at the time (this was back in high school so like maybe 1999/2000) did actually say they were “mild” allergies. But he did say to not eat them. Well I kept eating them because in high school I was a brat and felt like there’d be nothing left but veggies, fruits, dairy, and meat to eat, so I just ignored the advice and kept on eating peanut butter and jelly on wheat sandwiches, etc… The thing is I’m wondering if I should give up any or all of those foods now. I have a doctors appointment in 2 weeks with a new doctor and I’m going to ask her but does anyone have personal experience with a mild food allergy? I don’t puff up or have my tongue swell, my blood pressure doesn’t drop. It’s just a mild reaction I’m unaware of. Just looking for input before I get to the doctor. Thanks. :)

Can Anyone Recommend A Good Dog Food?

Posted by: admin | Comments (3)

I currently feed my 3-year-old Welsh Corgi and 1-year-old labradoodle Rachel Ray’s Nutrish food. I know it’s not the best stuff out there, however, real meat is listed in the first two ingredients, so I know it’s better than Iams or Purina or any of the big brands, yet I hear most often that it’s not too great. I have fed them more “high-end” or “all-natural” dog foods like Taste of the Wild and Wellness brand, but all have given them severe gas and diarrhea, so bad that they couldn’t control bowel movements at times (that was mostly with Taste of the Wild). I read online how much people bash the Nutrish, but it’s the only food I have tried that doesn’t give them gas at all.
So should I continue feeding them this “crappy” dog food that their stomachs seem to agree with, or go with the more organic foods that give them stomach trouble?

Before i say anything, we has booked her a vet appointment for this friday, She will be visiting the vets, but..
My shih tzu is 10years old and has over the years (we rescued her when she was 5) has never been completly healthy- she has grown very incontinent over the last 2years and is sometimes unbalanced on her back legs- we have to wash her regularly and clip her short so her hair doesnt get matted; we have always taken her to he vets when needed- they gave us medicine for her inconinence but there was only a small chance it would work, and it didnt. About a year ago she had to have a few teeth out as they where decayed quite severly- latly, in the last few days she has completly gone off her food, out of all her probems shoveling down a plate of food has never been one of them! She does however still eat all treats ( we do not give them regularly) and any titbits such as toast crusts and tuna, Now she is due for a trim as her hair has grown a fair bit- as i was brushing her today i noticed she has a lump about one and a half cm on her jaw- im almost sure it hasnt been there for long and im pretty sure there is something actually there and im not imagining it. Does anyone have any idea what a lump around the face area could be?
I know it may seem asthough she is in a sorry state, but, she is much loved and still runs around the place with my four other dogs,as happy as can be- we will not put her through any unneeded pain.

I’ve heard that it’s crucial that when you have a dog, you don’t change it’s food, that you always give it the same brand and type. My mom has been buying all different kinds of dog food for our dogs. So far they’ve had about 4 different kinds in the past 2 or 3 months. Will this make them sick? How bad is this exactly. Given, this is the first time we’ve really had dogs. One belongs to us and the other we’re taking care of for a friend. They both seem fine. The one we’re taking care of for a friend is about 5 and he just likes to sit around and be old. But our puppy is very playful, she doesn’t seem sick at all. She has a LITTLE diarrhea, I THINK. It’s almost nothing, completely normal. But I want to know why you can’t keep changing the dog’s food. I think my mom is trying to find something they like that’s in our budget. I just want to keep getting the $2 bags of Everpet. But what should I tell my mom? And please, don’t talk about how dumb my family is and all that crap. I’m really tired of smart allicks telling me that I’m dumb because I have a genuine question and need an honest answer. We have the means to take care of these dogs, my mom’s just kinda new to them. But I really just want to know what’s so crucial about keeping your dog on the same food?

It has gravy on the food because the dog does not like dry food so I would put a package of it on top of the dry food every night. The dog would just slurp it right up but still left the dry food. I didn’t think much about it. I just kept putting the gravy food on top of the dry. I did dump the dry out after a couple of days and started over. It has been really warm and humid here so tonight when he was over at the dish actually eating the dry because I hadn’t given him any of the gravy yet today I turned the light on and went over to look in the dish. There were all of these maggots in there. I had noticed that there were flies on the food so I assume they layed eggs on the food. I took the dish outside and it is still out there. I will leave it there until my sister comes home on Sunday today if Friday. I got a new dish and just put dry food in it. The dog has been acting like it didn’t feel good, diarrhea, moping around. We just thought it was the heat. I assume now that it was the maggots because I have been feeding the dog this gravy food for over a week almost 2. Do you think I am correct and that the flies layed eggs. Should I continue to feed the dog like I was and just throw the left over food out everyday after feeding? I was totally grossed out and had no one to talk to about it.

Duder weighs 120 lbs and I would like to get him down around 100. I rescued him at 12 months old from a highly abusive/neglectful situation and have always overindulged him. He is a bit gluttonous by nature, and I have been struggling with his weight for the past 3 yrs. His own tendencies have been exacerbated by my 3yo daughter who is constantly sneaking him treats. I want him to be healthy as he is a very important part of my family and I want him to live a long, healthy life. We have been to the vet about this issue and they kind of giggle about how he is “only the second biggest lab they’ve ever seen” (his weight once ballooned up to 127 a year ago). He eats Nutro and I switched him to the Weight Mgmt. sort; he’s lost around 7 lbs in the past year on that but seems to have stalled. I was told he is purebred and he definitely appears to be, and I think he is the American Lab, and as such is a larger variety– but he’s too big even once you consider that. He runs with me a few times a week and we have a half-acre that he runs around all day most days. Any advice on dry food measurement per day, and also any other useful tips will be greatly, greatly appreciated. We love our Duder dog!

I have a 13 year old english shepherd that has been eating purina pro plan for seniors. I am not sure how long since I just started caring for her, but I was wondering if I could switch her to a more organic diet with less carbs and maybe that would help her feel better. She is obviously older and moves slow as well as suffers from arthritis. I didn’t know if there was a dog food out there that might improve her quality of life. If not then I won’t change it since she is used to it already.

Problems With Beneful Dog Food?

Posted by: admin | Comments (5)

Has anyone else experienced recent problems with Beneful dry dog food – specifically the Healthy Weight formula? I’ve used it before with no problems, but a few days ago I bought a new bag and both of my dogs started having diarrhea and one threw up her dinner both nights. Obviously, I’ve stopped feeding it and have switched back to another kind that they ate for years without problems. I’ve reported the incident to Purina, but wonder if we just got a contaminated bag or if anyone else is having problems. I purchased this bag at Target in Southern California.

She doesn’t like any hard food. None. I’ve tried Purina, Kibbles and Bits, Science Diet, and various samples over other dog foods. Purina is the only thing she even remotely likes.
The problem is that most of them upset her stomach and give her diarrhea, and it doesn’t help that my mother likes to slip her bits of human food every now and then. I can’t tell if she’s actually sick or just not feeling well because she ate. She’s also very prone to throwing up when she’s in a car for more than 10 minutes.
Is there a medicine I could get, something I could put in her food? We even tried offering her a dog food that has venison (deer) in it and she wouldn’t touch it. I really don’t want to have to feed her chicken, yogurt, etc to bribe her into eating the hard food.
Wet food is out of the question because it makes the diarrhea even worse..
She’s been to the vet, she is totally healthy.
