Before I get any negative comments on this–I did not go about adopting a wolf-hybrid–the dog was a rescue, and I couldn’t be happier. Honestly, I have never had a better, more loyal, more trustworthy dog. However, my wolf hybrid (German Shepherd wolf-mix) is very attached to my Labrador, who is on his way out. I feel that because I am gone a fair bit, that I should have another dog to keep my hybrid company; I have always wanted an Irish Wolfhound (I have a large house, and plenty of property in the country, so I can more than accomodate the size). However, I was concerned whether a certain natural instinct to go after wolves would come out if I placed it around my other dog. I do not see how it would be a problem if I got a puppy and raised it with my wolf hybrid (who is currently 2), but I want to do nothing that would endanger the dog I already have. I want to introduce a puppy now, so that my wolf-hybrid can have time to bond with it as a comfort when his big brother dies.

Rescued “Honey” nearly full grown and raised in pound, very good natured, but in 4 years can’t train, pees in sleep in house on herself, have replaced rugs, furniture, help!! I love her tons but at witts end, she is now 130 lbs, and very smelly, had her 4 years, 1 other dog, terrier, epileptic also from pound, but no problems with her (they get along great, except terrier territorial when Honey is in the house), Honey is now outside dog most of time. Brought her to Vet who found no medical problem..live in FL and bring her in for storms, feeding and daily loving. She is so lovable and feel bad when she has an accident, don’t know where to start, don’t believe in spanking..

if you have an irishwolfhound and love the breed. then tell me what you think of this, wikkipedia says that the wolfhound not thought of as the tallest dog breed so much anymore, that the great dane is earning that tittle now. the tallest dane on record is over 40 inches tall. what bothers me ( and maybe its just me, and thats o.k) is the Irish wolfhound is known for being the tallest of all dog breeds, its his bragging rights! its what I love about them. I like great danes too but love the wolfhound because of their height and majesty. so should it bother me? I asked this of other breeders of I.W but they did not respond they wanted me to ask my own breeder but that was not my point, my point was to get the opinion of other breeders not just my own. and it caused a little bit of friction when my dogs breeder found out I contacted them not her. but I want another opinon some told me on yahoo that my wolfie was short. and that is what prompted me to look them up on wikkipedia.
Indi, and shopylak, even the two of you can’t agree on the standard? which is it, 105 lbs or 150lbs. I’m begging to wonder if there really is a standard. and am I the only one who love these dogs because they are so tall. I like the harlequinn dane because of its color and I had fostered one as a child but I love wolfhounds because they are so tall, whats wrong with that?
no marr17, I don’t think its stupid at all to love or like a particular breed because its tall or small? its one of the things we consider when getting a dog. I happen to like toy breeds as well as the giant breeds and I know other people do as well.
thankyou I.w.people, I have also wanted to thank you for another question you answered for me regarding dog food, I took your advice and got the food you suggested, I’m now waiting to see if it will work.
