Is my puppy sick? Should I be alarmed?

Posted by: admin | Comments (5)

hmm ok so I know he is sick – he had a diarrhea this morning and he is very inactive today. He also has runny nose. My puppy is only about 3 months old and just got his 3rd sets of shots… so I am a little worried…

I have an adult dog that gets like this once in awhile, but he’d always just get better by himself in a day or two. But since my puppy is still young, I am not sure if I should feel more alarmed?? He ate/pooped fine this morning.
I also wanted to add that the diarrhea only happened once this morning and since then he had eaten and had a normal poop…

he had his shots about 5 days ago

And, also, do I need to rinse the tooth paste after brushing? If so, how?? I’d be using tooth paste made for pets, of course, but still… Can dogs swallow it, no problem for their health?

How can I exercise my puppy?

Posted by: admin | Comments (7)

PLEASE READ THE QUESTION.

I usually take MY (I capitalized this because he is my dog, I paid for him/train him) dog for a walk in the morning and night, and my mom lets him in the backyard in the afternoon (she can’t walk him she is handicapped) while i’m at school. The thing is at this current time I’m terrified of taking him out for a walk there has been 2 murders near my house (pretty much a few blocks from me) in less than a few hours apart! And my puppy (he is a large breed, a golden) has so much energy and he is way too hyper without the walk, running around in the backyard isn’t doing it. I haven’t taken him for a walk in 2 days (since the first murder happened). What can I do. I’m 16, thanks. I live in a very safe neighborhood, this has been the first murder in a long time, and the first this year. Um if you want to read about the homicide i’m talking about here is a link: http://www.canada.com/montrealgazette/news/story.html?id=be490539-7210-41e7-9be6-515070da9acd

anything else I can do, and taking him for a walk in no option, I’M TERRIFIED, even to go out with someone else!

I just got back from the vet, with my 6 week old pug puppy. She had her first deworming. She’ll have a blood test on monday and after the results are back, get her first vaccines. I currently live in India (so I don’t know if I trust the vet 100% just yet), but I’ll go abroad, to Europe, in august. Planning to bring the puppy. Today, the vet gave me a “passport”, where we’ll register all her procedures. She told me what vaccines she’d give, but was a little vague. In the back of this little book, there is a suggestion for the vaccines 6 week old dogs should have:(Parvo; Distemper Virus; Adenovirus 1 -2, Para-Influenza, Corona; canicola; icterohaemorrhagiae). I want to be sure to get all my dog needs and to ask the vet all that’s necessary, both for pup’s health and for traveling. Is there any other vaccines I should ask for, at the age of 6 weeks?

So you probabilly have heard already about my 4 year old blind dog, Stevie. Stevie is TOTALLY BLIND. Is story, and how he grew blind, is a sad and touching one. Stevie came from a terrible puppy mill here in England. He was left lying on a pond of pee and full of poop, on a croutched cage where he couldn’t even stand up. Because of the dirt and flies he had constantly around, he began developing a serious eye condition called catarats. By the time he was 5 months old, the puppy mill realized that they couldn’t sell such an ill dog, so they gave him up to a rescue center. I got a call from a friend and checked him up. I fell in love with this sweet puppy! He was terribly skinny, full of parasites and suffered from heart-worms. He was nursed to health, but I couldn’t help his eye loss…

It’s a thing that really irritates me, this puppy mills. Specially when I experienced this! Just thinking that Stevie could be a “normal” dog pisses me off.

—> WHAT DO YOU THINK ABOUT PUPPY MILLS? HAVE YOU EVER ADOPTED A DOG FROM A PUPPY MILL? OR BOUGHT BY A PET STORE?

Next target: so, okay, my dog is blind. I brought him up as a therapy dog in this last years and I have been teaching him obedience since then. I feel very confortable around a blind dog, but I still need some help:

——> I THOUGHT IT WAS INTERESTING TO TRAIN HIM AGILITY. IS IT POSSIBLE? HOW?

——> WHEN I TAKE HIM ON WALKS, I AM AFRAID THAT HE BUMPS AGAINST SOMETHING BECAUSE HE IS ALWAYS ON THE FRONT.

———-> HOW VISITORS GREET BLIND DOGS? AND HOW DO I KEEP HIM FROM BUMPING INTO THE FORNITURE (MY MOM NEEDED TO CHANGE IT FOR CLEANING).

——-> POLL: IS YOUR DOG DISABLE?

——–> LEGIT: DID YOU EVER EXPERIENCED SOMETHING LIKE THIS? HERE IS MY STORY:
So my dog cannot climb the stairs. He is afraid. I tried to force him, lure him with tricks, he cannot. He doesn’t even bother to try. So some months ago, I broke a leg and I needed to stay in my bed (upstairs). So, just to be with me, my dog managed to climb the stairs! Awww…
And when I am ill, my dog refuses to eat and gets ill too :)

Answer what you know!
Stevie is the dog on my profile pic :)

*PLEASE READ EVERYTHING*

I asked this question last night, but I want more response from all of you. I will show this question to her to prove to her that what she’s doing is WRONG.

Okay, my friend owns a 10 week old (I think) small breed puppy. He is a mutt, so I have no idea what he really is. He is tiny. She got him from a breeder, but didn’t really ask her too much about that. She takes good care of him when it comes to his health (updated on his shots and have regular vet visits), she buys him toys, and ALWAYS clean him when he goes potty. That puppy does not stink at all. lol! Also, she buys him the high quality, “holistic” food that I can’t even afford. She has everything (material wise) to make her puppy happy.

BUT whenever her puppy licks himself (privates), she yells NO! then she rolls up a paper and swaps her puppy with it. She doesn’t do it hard though. She tested it on me, and it didn’t hurt me at all. I barely felt it. Plus, her dog has a lot of fur, so I doubt he can feel it. Anyways, when her puppy misbehaves like barking, whining, growling for no reason, or yaping, she swaps him with the paper after she yells no.

Is this the right way of treating a little puppy or any puppy? What should I tell her?

PS: Her puppy is NOT scared of her at all. He always plays with her, follows her, licks her, and sleeps on her lap. The puppy now is so WELL behaved. He doesn’t really bark or yap. Also, he is VERY sweet to everyone, esp to strangers. He gets super excited in meeting new people. Plus, when we leave him alone, he doesn’t have separation anxiety. He doesn’t cry or anything. He is totally fine in his pen and his bed alone. When we come back, he gets very excited and licks us (her first). He is very healthy, energetic, playful, and NOT scared of anyone.

Should I stop her or do you think she’s doing the right thing since her puppy is so well behaved? AM I JUST OVERREACTING?…
ALSO, when he plays with my 9 week old shih tzu, they get along just FINE. He is NOT aggressive or scared at all.

He isn’t locked in a kennel. His kennel has the door opened to a playpen with newspapers. Why on earth would he do this and lay in it? What can I do to train him properly? I bought him from a breeder.
Great answers.I must go into more detail. We take him out very often & praise him & teaching him to ring a bell to go outside. He has rang it twice. The newspapers are there cause I would rather him go on the papers than on his bed. He pees on it too, not as often as poop. This only happens at night when we are asleep or during the day when we are not home. I’ve tried to kennel him & of course that doesn’t work at all. If it’s not working with the kennel door open to the playpen with the newspapers, it doesn’t work with the door closed.I’m tired of washing the bed and giving him baths. This cannot be good for his skin.I thought poodles were smart. Our last dog was a very smart Border Collie.Yes this is gross.I only wanted a dog that didn’t shed in the house. Now I have something worse.Besides this bad behavior,he is a pleasure in all other ways.We love him.I want him to go potty only outside & not in the house.I think we will get there sooner or later. He’s still young. It’s the poo in bed:(

My 16 week old pitbull puppy, chevy, got bit by my dads 13ish year old golden retriever today(he was jumping on him licking him etc not biting or clawing) all i noticed at first was a couple little cuts between his eyes wich i immediatly put bacitracin on and comforted him, he was so scared he peed himself! poor guy, well anyway, i was just playing with the little guy now, a couple hours after the bite, and i notice that his eyelid twitches a little, wich im not too worried about ive person had twitches after a cut that just go away, but his haw is showing a little bit, im worried my puppy that i consider to be like my child is hurt, is this something will get better? also, because he may have a tendency allready to be dog agressive and neither are nuetered, what should i do to aid thier relationship? nuetering is out of the question as chevy is pure bred and nearly a perfect show dog/would be great for stud service and the retriever is not my pet. thank you

Id like to note my puppy has not shown any agression around any dogs or people including this one, he was licking the retriever just as he would me and the retriever didnt like it and bit him. I have been socializing him often to be sure he stays a sweet heart. anyone that will bash this or any breed can move on.
He has shown no sighns of dog agression so far. he was the runt of his litter and is scared of any agression from people or animals. hes being raised as a pet/family member not a guard or fighting animal. hes being obedience well obedience trained. I socialize him often with all kinds of dogs and people and he shows no problems the older dog just doesnt seem to like the fact that hes a hyper puppy and wants to play. chevy doesnt try to bite or claw he just jumps like he would onto my lap or the sofa and gives the retriever kisses, he even tried to sleep next to him untill tonight. Im not afraid to let them sort things out a little bit, butI dont want either of them getting hurt much less having to go to the vet! Also should he show any agression issues he obviously wont be bred, please dont accuse me of things like that. hes a sweetheart and id like to keep it that way. I didnt post this for people to try to bash me or my dog, i posted it for advice please leave it that way!
