Puppy Or Senior Dog????????
Posted by: | CommentsI do realize that both are great dogs and here are some of the things I heard about senoirs:
-Less active, so they don’t need as much exercise daily
-Mellow,calm
-They might have bad behavior that a previous owner taught them or something
Puppies:
-You get to train them
-Very playful,energetic
-Might tear up furniture,plants,etc.
If there is anything important that I missed please tell me! Right now I kind of want a puppy more because he/she could play with my dogs. The main reason why I wanted a dog is because I need a jogging buddy and swimming buddy, I don’t know if a senior dog would like that. But I feel so bad that senior dogs are being put to death in shelters and rescues because they are not being adopted! I am completely torn…
Siberian Husky/german Shepherd Mix Puppy Help!?
Posted by: | CommentsI just got a Siberian Husky/GSD mix from a rescue. She is 5 months old and spayed. The first day, she was fine sleeping in her crate – but the past few nights she has been barking and whining – we can’t get any sleep at all. We’ve tried putting treats and toys in there, but she completely ignores them. The crate is big enough for her to stand up and turn around in, so space isn’t the issue. We also give her exercise every day and take her out to potty every few hours.
She’s also very aggressive to other dogs. When they pass by our house, she goes nuts – barking and growling at them. She also seems to be aggressive towards small children as well… She also sometimes humps legs… Help?
Took Puppy To Emergency Vet Last Night?
Posted by: | CommentsMy puppy wouldn’t stop throwing up and had bouts of diarrhea all day yesterday. He was diagnosed with acute gastroenteritis- she thinks that he either ate something on a walk that he shouldn’t have or someone throw something into our backyard [we live backing a park]. Anyway, I’m glad that I took him in even if it was expensive. She also told us that many animals end up getting hospitalized with this because they end up being dehydrated, but my pup keeps drinking and peeing, so I have to watch that- but he hasn’t been sick since yesterday before we went.
My question is when I was there, I was went early [our regular vet just closed] and we were there for about 3 hours [other pets kept getting bumped ahead of us].
When we were waiting for the medication and the bill, we got talking to another lady and her dog who was wrapped in a sheet. It turns out that she was there for the dogs ear because it was all pussy. I asked her if the sheet was like a blanket for the dog and she said no- the dog was in a sheet because it just had a litter of pups, and the pups ripped her, but she said there was nothing the vet could do about that. I asked if this was the dogs first litter, and she laughed and said no- saying that she was now going to “retire” that dog from breeding and use one of her pups instead.
From the little information that I got, it made me wonder- would you say that she was a BYB?

How Can I Get My 6 Week Old Puppy To Eat?
Posted by: | CommentsI recently got rescued a puppy who had just been through parvo, her mother died from the parvo when she was 4 1/2 weeks old. Ive had her for 4 days and I can barely get her to eat anything. The people I got her from were feeding her dog food gravy with a syringe and pedialiyte also through a syringe. When i brought her home I bought 4 different kinds of canned puppy food, but she wouldn’t eat any of it unless I gave it to her through a syringe. And she wouldn’t like the pedialiyte, only if i gave it to her in a syringe. She also had very dark yellow pee, and diarrhea. I also have cats, and theyre cat food is kept in my room, and when i wasnt looking she would try to eat the cat food. I looked that up and people said its not good for dogs so I’ve been trying to keep her away from it. Yesterday I bought IAMs puppy food, and Tried to give it to her plain like the cat food but she wouldn’t eat it, so I put it in warm milk and she wouldn’t eat it, then I put some in the food in warm water and she ate it really fast. And she started licking water out of a plate, and some pedialiyte. Today I tried the warm water and food again, and she wouldn’t eat it at all. But she was really trying to eat my blueberry muffin, which i didn’t let her do because i know it’d give her diarrhea. So then I tried putting a little Cinnamon on the food and she started to eat it but then figured it out and just licked the Cinnamon off. She drank a little bit of water on her own, but likes to drink out of my cups more then her bowl.:/ She also just had diarrhea the last time i took her out a couple minutes ago. I dont know what to do. She is very thin. And she sleeps a lot. She has little to no muscle in her back legs so she falls over easily. she likes to follow me around though so i try take her outside to walk around for exercise but after a while she just gives up and lays down. I dont want answers that say take her to the vet i already know this but i just spent a lot of money getting my cat fixed and cant afford a vet visit right now. please help!
My Puppy Is 5 Months Old, Should We Get Another Dog?
Posted by: | CommentsMy puppy is 5 months old now- he’s a GSD, husky, and other types of dogs mixed into a cute bundle. We got him from the local rescue. We have had him for over 3 months now. He is happy and he gets a ton of attention, we take him for two walks, he’s fully housetrained, and he knows commands pretty good- we have him in puppy school.
There is one probably though. He is soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo lonely. I’m with him all day, and my boyfriend is with us after he’s done work- so he gets a ton of human attention. We have cats, but they don’t want to play with him. He whines when he sees them because he wants to play with him, but because he is so big, he just scares them.
He loves other dogs so much. In puppy school, he has decided who his BFF’s are in the class and the three of them are a total entourage. It’s so cute. He wants to play with the neighbours dog all the time, but she’s an aggressive Brittney who gets crated all day
so when she is out and if she comes over, she bites my puppy and tries to pick a fight with him.
So anyway, I would love to have another dog, not just as a companion for our puppy, but as an addition to our house. I’m home for the next year [while I'm finishing up university] so I feel like this would be a good time to bring another dog into the house.
We were thinking a smaller dog, like a beagle or something or a medium size dog- one that gets along well with cats and other dogs.
Thoughts?

Puppy Question / Issue…help!?
Posted by: | CommentsHi, my wife and I just rescued a puppy. We have both been around dogs most of our lives but have never had our own. She is 4 months old, half lab/half hound, and really smart. She has the look of a lab but the demeanor of a hound, very relaxed, most of the time. Our situation is as follows: 1. We take her on big walks twice a day, play with her and she is fed in the morning and night. She was feeding three times a day, but became uninterested in the mid day meal and the vet said to go to 2 meals, and that would be fine. We are trying so hard to crate train her. What we do is pretty much keep her in the crate at all times except when walking her, feeding her or playing with her. Once she is in the crate, she is fine. She doesn’t really whine, or whimper or anything. I need to give her a treat to coax her into going in, but once in, she really doesn’t try and get out. If she is not in the crate and left alone for more then a couple mins (2-3) it is almost guaranteed that she will pee somewhere. If she is left in the crate, and taken directly from the crate outside, she goes there (and we praise the heck out of her when she does!), and that is what we have been trying to keep consistent with. I just don’t know when I will know when I can keep her out of the crate (to make lunch, change over laundry, etc.) alone for a while where she wont pee. Is there a way to tell when a dog is house broken and wont pee anywhere if left alone? Are we doing the crate training properly?
Finally, 2. When taking her for walks, she will bite and go after the leash to bite and chew on it and if the leash is held out of her grasp, she will nibble/bite at your loose hanging shorts. When trying to get the leash or shorts out of her mouth, she will only go nuttier and harder to control. It is like she thinks we are playing back, but in reality, we are trying to get a completely different point across. Also, when playing, she will bite (not hard, soft like a puppy) and when trying to reprimand her, she object and bark and it seems the only way to remedy it is to take her for another walk or ignore her (but when we do that, we are worried she will pee). Also, we have been told to be strong and give the tough love thing, but cant help having the feeling that the dog looses a little faith in us as owners every time something goes wrong…Any help or suggestions would be GREATLY appreciated. She is signed up for a puppy class in the next couple weeks, and I do have a yard trainer collar that is like an electric fence collar, but I cant start to use that until she is at least 6 months old.
Puggle Or Jug? Having Trouble Finding A Puppy In (colchester) Ess*x Area?
Posted by: | CommentsI think both these dogs look very familiar but don’t know which would be the best and easiest to house train? I’m swaying more towards a Jug (Jack Russell x Pug) as my Grandparents have had a Jack Russell for as long as I can remember. Also Jug’s seem more calm and obedient. I know that mixed breed is unpredictable in regards to characteristics. I’ve looked on various sites about both breeds and no I am not after a designer dog, or “mutt” to be cool etc as some people have said to others.
I’ve also looked at rescue homes and have had no luck. Fortunately, there is someone giving away a Puggle in my home town (Colchester, Ess*x). I have sent a few questions such as why free, how old, etc etc. But I have had no luck searching for a Jug – only miles away. I am quite happy to wait for the next available litter wherever or whenever that may be, as I am aware most litters were available in June. But I would like to move into my new house with one – which will be beginning of October. I have never had a dog before and have grown up with siamese cats constantly around. I understand there is a lot involved with a puppy but I am very willing and able and will constantly give it affection and attention.
My question is, quite bluntly, which is the better dog? I cannot find any pro’s and cons of either breed as most opinions come from breeders so are biased. I would love a realistic answer and not any judgement please.
I also would like to know if anyone knows of any breeders or rescue’s with these dogs in the East Anglia area? I have already looked at Mistley Rescue and RSCPA in Braintree. I am looking for either a ***** or dog but would like it as young as possible (obviously old enough to leave Mum, which I think is 8-10 weeks or so?)
Many thanks.

New Puppy And Bad Allergies?
Posted by: | Commentsme and my husband just got a new puppy about 1 week ago, and ever since then, I cannot stop sneezing after I hold it or even play on the floor with my little girl and the dog comes near me. It is half doxy and half mini pincher to give you an idea of what it looks like.
Is there anything that the doctor can give me for being allergic to my own dog? Me and my husband and my little girl love the new puppy, and she is a doll, but I sneeze everyday and my eyes itch and I just cant take it anymore. We do not want to give it away.
I’ve noticed that I am aunry everyday because of all of my sneezing!!
