Personal protection attack dog training video of a 7 month old German Shepherd/ Belgian Malinois mix puppy. Although this dog isn’t old enough to do real guard dog work it is being prepared to do real protection work… sort of like sending a child to karate class. He will finish guard dog training at about 18 months old. Quality protection dog training takes patience, respect, and knowledge. If a dog is trained with yelling and intimidation…how do you expect them to do protection work on a yelling man? Beware of people who sell sport dogs (aka schutzhund trained dogs) as “personal protection dogs. Sport dogs are trained to look pretty doing specific protection routines on a training field and may be confused in a real situation when there is not a bite sleeve or protection suit to bite. Also these types of protection dogs are trained to take stick hits instead of avoiding them and attcking that arm. This is because you can’t hold the stick with an arm within sleeve and schutzhund is a sport that is meant to prove a dogs bravery and show they are worthy of breeding, therefore they are trained to take stick hits that are always used with a stick that won’t really hurt the dog and are always hit on safe spots of the body. This is setting the dog up for failer when they must fight a person for real that is planning on hitting them in the head with an iron bar. When do you start training when a new puppy comes into your home?
Posted by: | CommentsThere’s lots of training questions on here, so I wonder when most people begin training a new puppy. I’m talking about more than house training her too. Does it start the day the puppy comes home? Do you wait a couple weeks, let things slide, because puppy needs to settles in to the new home? Do you wait until 6 months or older?
Just curious when people think it’s the right time to begin proper training.

Realistic effects of training and neutering..?
Posted by: | CommentsI got a 3-5 y/o blue heeler from the pound about 6 weeks ago. He was sick at first and very timid. Now that he’s feeling better he’s become very aggressive towards my roomates dog. I figured that was something to do with introducing a new dog into his house (he was home about 2 weeks before my roomates dog) and was something I could work on. Today I took him to the vet for shots and he bit the vet assistant (first human aggression). He gets neutered in a week and I’m hoping that helps, plus I’m open to obedience classes. However, he appears to have been a true farm dog and not socialized well. I don’t mind working with my dog but I’m aware that 1. I’m not familiar with training dogs at all and 2. I’m not sure I have the time to work with a real trouble case. I’ve read a lot about this breed and it sounds like they can be a real handful. Am I in over my head or can I expect nuetering and some classes to help the problem? I’m not willing to own a dog that bites people.
I don’t want to sound like I just want an easy dog and am not willing to work. But, I do work two jobs and do not have a ton of down time. I’m more worried about the dog aggression right now since this was the first human aggro I’ve seen, but if the human aggro keeps up obviously I’d be more concerned about that. It may be fear (rather than hormones) because he’s great with me and my roomate but panicked at the vet. I can do whatever I want (take food away, pick up, rough house him) with no repurcussions but this lady just went to grab a paper towel that was in front of him.
Can anyone recommend good puppy training near to the Peterborough area?

Good website for training a puppy to do tricks?
Posted by: | CommentsI have a 2 1/2 month old pitbull puppy that we have been teaching some commands. She is able to sit, lay, shake hands, and starting to perfect roll over. She is also crate trained. The one thing that I’m having a hard time teaching her is stay. I think that is probably the most important one to teach her because most people are afraid of her because she is a pitbull. I also want to teach her other tricks. So if anybody knows of a good website or has any tips please tell me. Thank you.
Do sound collars help aid in training? (Especially when you need a quick temporary fix)?

I’m talking about a sound collar….it emits a high pitched noise. I had one for my first dog but it didn’t affect him except he destroyed it. Sound collar do not hurt the dog
But this would be on a dog that doesn’t like noises and I was wondering if it would be effective for a dog that doesn’t like noises yet has a barking problem
(I know about all the techniques with the water bottle….we have been working with a trainer for crying out loud) I know training is part of it.
So please just stick to the question: Do sound collars work?
(It helped in training my uncles boxers he almost got evicted due to their barking but they don’t bark anymore….that mixed with training I’m wondering if there are any other success stories out there)
