Today My 9 Year Old Dog Got Neautered And…?
Bywell i took him to the vet yesterday and he had an enlarged prostate and she said i would be at risk if i didnt get him neutered so i did, its a cavalier king charles spaniel btw.
well now he is having trouble laying down and seems very sad/drowsy, hes trying his best not to fall asleep while sitting, but he wont lay.
she also said something about cancer, im noly 15 and didnt fully understand , is an enlarged prostate cancer?
will he die?

An enlarged prostate is a secondary symptom and simply means something in that area is causing problems. It could be cancer, an infection, scar tissue, etc… In rare cases, no cause is found but usually there is an underlying cause. I think you need to call your vet back and find out exactly what she found when she neutered your dog. I’d bring up the drowsiness as well if he is not normally a sleepy dog. It could be a reaction to the anesthesia. The trouble lying down is probably due to pain. He’s going to be sore for a little while. He did just have major surgery on a very sensitive area. If it’s really bothering him, your vet can prescribe a pain killer. Good luck with him. Please let us know what the vet says. I’m very curious as to what was actually wrong with him.

An enlarged prostate is not necessarily cancer, but male dogs who are older and haven’t been fixed are at a very high risk for prostate cancer among other things. It could be that your dog has cancer of the prostate, but without all the info I’m not able to say.
As for not wanting to lie down and acting odd; he just had surgery. He is going to be in pain for a while, and he propably is still hurting. Don’t worry; your dog will be fine, and proabbly back to normal in a few days.
However, if your dog has cancer; I’m very sorry.

An enlarged prostate can be in indicator of cancer. By having him neutered they will have checked for this during surgery. It will take him a while to heal but in about 3 days he should be back to normal. Talk with your parents about what the vet said about the cancer.

Phone your vet and talk to them over the phone on what they say about your dog. It’s the most accurate way to get answers to your question on your specific dog.
