~ Well, I would first forget what the poster said about a raw diet, they obviously have not done their homework. To recommend a food like Science Diet or Royal Canin says how much they don’t know. Besides, vet school is not to learn about dog nutrition.
If you have no interest in feeding a raw diet, that is not the end of the world. There are a lot of quality kibbles out there, ones that are grain free and ones that have quality grains and meat that are made by quality companies; unlike Science Diet and Royal Canin.
Here is a list, however, a raw diet is very beneficial.
Quality foods:
Innova-meat and quality grains, California Natural-simple ingredient food for sensitivities, EVO-grain free, Karma-95% organic; all made by Natura- http://www.naturapet.com/
Wellness-meat and quality grains with several formulas, Wellness Core-grain free; made by Old Mother Hubbard- http://www.wellnesspetfood.com/

Definitely feed the dog a natural, human grade quality, super premium food. We use Innova for both of our dogs and all of our rescues. It is so healthy, it saved our dog’s life after he had a major intestinal blockage.
We also give the dogs Nupro supplement in addition to their kibble, and include a bit of yogurt and Vitamin E in each meal as well. We have healthy, healthy, happy dogs and even the farts aren’t that bad!
As for the cat, I wish I could be more helpful, but I have very very limited experience with cats. Perhaps there is a specialty pet store (not a Petsmart or Petco chain type place) nearby that you could visit and ask them what they would suggest? Many specialty pet store employees know a lot about the foods they sell and can help you pick the best one.

Hi!
I would feed a high quality food like Canidae, Solid Gold, Merrick, Wellness, etc, for your dog. Most of those make a cat food also. You can also try Chicken Noodle Soup for The Cat Lovers Soul….

Raw diet

Okay, so there’s this militant group of raw feeders on this site and to be honest, they scare the crap out of me. I’m sure they know quite a bit more than the professionals who spent copious amounts of time and money learning about animal nutrition, but it’s not a healthy diet, I don’t care how good you think your dog looks.
The best foods on the market are Science Diet and Royal Canin, they have the most rigorous nutrition testing and they spend huge amounts of money to ensure that their food is the best it can be.
Most importantly, before you switch to a raw diet or (god forbid) a barf diet, talk to a veterinarian. They actually know animal nutrition. They went to school for it.
