I cringe every time I hear some one looking for a pet set a price range. Puppies are expensive, not just the initial cost, but the cost of supplies, the vet bills, the neutering, the training, the new rug to replace the one that was ruined during housebreaking/teething. If you’re on a tight budget you should wait a little while to get a dog.
Petfinder.com or go to a doberman rescue website. There are so many abandoned dogs that need to be rescued! Dont buy from a petstore. Petfinder.com is a great source in helping you locate your future best friend!!!
Search the internet for local Dobie adoption agencies. My ex’s mom got herself a full-size Dobie and it was great. Her and Rudy are really happy and she didn’t have to pay through the nose for him.
You can’t get a Miniature Doberman Pinscher, because there is no such breed. Do you want a Miniature Pinscher – or a Doberman Pinscher. Two totally different breeds. The Miniature Pinscher, is an older breed than the Doberman and much smaller.
I suppose at that price you want a good quality Min Pin, from titled parents, and a guarantee as well! The cheapest price that you are going to pay for your dog is the purchase price of the dog. If you can not afford a dog, they you get what you pay for. Most of the time, if you pay a small price for a pup, then you are going to have to pay more for that dog in vet bills over its lifetime.
Min Pin’s have no Doberman in them – that is a seperate breed all together. Min Pin’s are wonderful and if you want one…why not call a rescue group for them. Google for sites and get yourself approved and put on a list.
If you really want to get a cheap doberman, you can look for a healthy one in the animal shelter. However, it may be hard to find such a cheap and good doberman at pet shops which treat their dogs very well.
there is no such breed…… if you want a miniature pinscher * not doberman… go to the min pin club of america website and start your search for a reputable breeder…. i do not believe you will find a healthy one for that price,, but you could also get the link from that site for min pin rescue… please bear in mind,, this breed is NOT a small version of the doberman,, it is its OWN BREED……
Check rescues, http://www.petfinder.com, and shelters. If you’re not set on getting a puppy, your price range for the initial price will be more easily met.
That said, I’ve spent $500 on dog supplies, obedience classes, vet care, and such ALONE since getting my dog 3 months ago. To be fair, I purchased her vet plan for this whole year and I wouldn’t do a thing differently, but dogs aren’t cheap.
As you have hopefully already discovered, there is no such animal A Doberman Pinscher is not the same or even related to a Minature Pinscher. Pinscher is a word denoting ‘terrier’. I wouldn’t look for cheap in either breed but for a breeder that knows and cares what they are doing. Most good breeders will work with you to get their pup into the right home. Both breeds have parent clubs that can help you to locate breeders to interview and learn from. Please learn about the breed you want to have and know what it is you are wanting and getting before you purchase so that you and the dog have a wonderful, long lasting relationship. BTW, be warey of back yard greeders that crank out puppies for 47 years and sell them at cut rates to anyone – those are breed specific puppy millers and you get the poor quality their cut rate offers hawking their wares on the internet – they make up excuses for their poor quality making gimmicky claims about the breed they really know nothing about except how to crank puppies out. Buyer beware of Yogi bear Greeders use gimmicks like ‘decendents of AKC champion lines’ because they can’t finish their dog’s championships themselves. Please do a lot of research because there are a lot of people hawking dogs on the internet that are simply back yard greeders or millers. Contact the parent club of the Minature Pinscher and get referal to a REAL breeder that knows and cares about the breed that will mentor you – isn’t interested in SELLING to you but in helping you learn about the breed and the pitfalls of people that talk the talk but have never really learned anything in their decades of exploiting their poor quality animals. The Gal and her dog above is correct – you will end up spending much more on a dog than $500 and if you buy cheap (like $400-600 from a greeder) you will likely spend even more since you will end up having to pay vet bills because they are cut rate and keep their bottom line down by not having good, healthy animals but just puppy makers. A good breeder will not act like a McDonalds for dogs… like a greeder does – made to order, all colors and specifications – any gimmick to sell a puppy. Find out what the disqualifications in the breed are and if a breeder breeds for that, you know they are just in it for the money.
BTW, unlike some, I don’t sell nor own any Miniature Pinschers so don’t have a monitary interest in smoozing you but will tell you the truth. Beware of greeders with ‘CKC’ if it is not varifiable as Canadian Kennel Club since there is also the Continental Kennel Club which is a con organization that will ‘register’ anything and is like a big red flag that someone is a back yard greeder, as is breeding disqualifications like blue or oversized. Make sure the breeder you get a pup from has actually accomplished something with their dogs, does full health testing and that the dogs are veterinary complete and properly evaluated before considering them. There are a whole lot of people making puppies but hardly any of them are really knowledgeable, caring and responsible breeders so you will have a whole lot of junk to sift through before finding a good breeder (and you won’t find them advertising their dogs here like that greeder below
As for Abby – what ‘sounds’ to you is nonsense. I don’t HAVE Miniature Pinschers and so I don’t ask anything for them. Maybe you are just some buddy of that greeder who makes lame claims or something. Most likely. Hopefully the original questioner will do her homework and stay away from greeders and people breeding puppies for known disqualification and problems and will get a good quality puppy from a responsible breeder that knows what they are doing and aren’t commercially motivated.
Unlike Nancy M who really does not know anything about Miniature Pinschers since she has no clue that this was and is still in many places a working breed (“a working breed, hahahah. Its a toy dog”) Dont take advice from this person. She is only good for sending sarcasitc e-mails to people who differ in opinion than she does. As a Miniature Pinscher breeder prices vary from area to area. Many breeders will put a buyer through a session of answering questions based on the breed. I can name several in my area including myself who’s pup go for between $400.00 and $600.00. These are descendants of AKC championship bloodlines. The Miniature Pinscher was around nearly 200 years prior to the Doberman Pinscher and is it’s own breed. It was used in the late 40′s and 50′s to re-establish todays German Pinscher. It was also introduced approx 60 years ago as breed stock for the American Rat Terrier. The Miniature Pinscher is still used on farms in Germany as well as here to ferret out rats and mice as it was created to do centuries ago. Unfortunately Nancy M’s limited research kept her within the bounds of the US. Had she actually researched German records she would be in a position to offer you more info but unfortunately her research abilities seem limited based on her e-mails she will send you if she does not agree with your answers here to questions. She has 2 so she seems to think others are not knowledgeable with regards to the breed let alone any breeder who does not crop or dock a dogs tail whether the person purchasing wants the tail and ears left natural is deemed in her eyes to be less than a reputable breeder. Again, depending on the area of the country. West coast you will find them less expensive than most areas. My Stag Red stud comes from former CKC and AKC Championship line. One of my Blues comes from one of the oldest long time breeders in this country of Miniature Pinschers also. Both were $450.00. I do agree that it would first be good that you spend time reading up on the breed and knowing it’s real name first to be sure this is the dog for you. They can and generally are a handful and not really a good dog for a first time dog owner. They are energetic and require a lot of yard space to wear off this energy. Good luck in you search. Unlike Nancy M above who produces no real documentation to support herself. I have documentation to support that my dogs are from Canadian Kennel Club as well as AKC championship lines. In addition my dams only have 3 litters total before they are spayed. In some cases less. Leave it to this sarcastic lonely woman with no life who spends her free time sending e-mails to people who do know this breed to pass on no real information. Anyone wishing to see these e-mails need only inform me and I will forward them. I do not mass produce. This is hard to do when I have 2 dams and 2 sires. I have 10 rescue Miniature Pinschers and am a former foster and evaluated for IMPS (Internet Miniature Pinscher Service). I take in Miniature Pinschers from all over the country that people do not want. Currently have one coming from Kansas. That is more than I can say about Nancy M who if she in facts does breed or only claims to will ever do for her breed. These are spayed and neutered dogs who are given to live out their lives amongst their own. I have taken in blind ones and special needs dogs for year before it was fashionable to rescue dogs independently. Again, Nancy M, what have you done besides spend a lonely life bitterly attacking people who’s ideas are different than yours. Someone must have hurt you badly to be so mean to people you do not know that you would have to send such e-mails to them. Is it so hard for you to grasp that not all “reputable” not “preputable” breeders will in fact honor the request of a buyer and not dock or crop. Believe it or not this is not being untrue to the breed. If you had researched the reason for this in the first place you would have known that it was done for a specific purpose and as the dog no longer in most cases performs the work where injuries to the tail and ears were common there is no longer a need for a “pet” to have to have these procedures. I never told you or dictated to you that it is REQUIRED so where do you get off telling people that they do not care about their breeds if they do not crop and dock. Also, not all dogs or animals ears naturally stand. Next you will tell us that Bloodhounds, Basset Hounds and Dachshunds ears should also be cropped as part of nature their ears do not stand either. and for the record, Blues are not disqualified. They can not be entered for show but can be for all other aspects of the AKC. Get your facts straight Nancy M, as usual you are guessing and throwing out garbage instead of facts. Also, 137 puppies in 47 years. This must make me the worst puppymill breeder in history. Miniature Pinscher, Australian Shepherds and GS/Husky mix’s. Funny, I live on a farm and these breeds are still used by local farmers for ratting, herding and guard purposes. You would not know this though as you have no clue that these places still exist. Majority of the dogs bred, pups were pre-arranged for farmers and ranchers. If this constitutes puppymill “greeder” as you put it, you are more naive than your first e-mail implied. I have sold only a few to individuals for general household pets. As stated I only have a few litters with a total of 137 puppies in 47 years. Throwing lies around about people is childish at best and the more you do it only shows everyone the truth about you. I am sorry you did not agree with my response that a person can in fact purchase a puppy from reputable breeders with ears and tail intact if so wanted. I know for a fact this is done and these breeders are members of MPCA. But for you to go off calling these breeders not reputable only alienates you no one else. I only answered the question based on my knowledge remember it was you who e-mailed me referring to me as everything under the sun that was bad when it came to this topic. In truth I have rescued and raised far more dogs than I have ever bred and will continue to do so for the sake of the dog. Lets see you get off your proverbial and trying do the same. Or maybe it is easier to condemn those who actually do real work with dogs that bothers you.
As one who lives in California I have found what Yogi says to be quite true. I dealt with a breeder who is a member of MPCA (Miniature Pinscher Club of America). She was very nice and knowledgeable and took time with me to ask questions and to be sure I was aware of what I was getting in a dog. She had paperwork and even showed me paperwork and pics of her dogs in AKC shows. The pup I bought did come from championed dogs. My question is why should the dog have to be more than what I paid ($400.00). Sounds to me Nancy M that you may be asking more money for you dogs just because they are AKC, are they champions or something? Whether or not why would you think less of someone who does not ask as much for their dogs as you would for your dogs. Sounds hypocritical what you wrote. Like you are in this for the money and not for the love of your dog or dogs. I went to several places before I bought the little one I know have. Pet stores and other breeders. I was not surprised with the price at all as most here offered AKC papers and prices were all about the same but you seem to imply they are undercharging. I would think that you would support not overcharging but it appears you do based on your post here. I do not think that says much for you as a person when you seem to condemn the idea that a breeder does not charge a large amount of money for a dog just because you do. Sorry, I agree with Yogi. You seem to have a very negative outlook that I don’t think is very good for those who come here looking to get real anwers not lectures. My pup is now registered with AKC. I did not have to pay any extra for papers as they came with her. So based on my experience yes you can get a Miniature Pinscher for $500.00 or less. At least I was able to. If this is what you were looking to buy when you said Miniature Doberman Pinscher.
Oh yes, you very well can find a miniature pinscher for less than 500$. Price range varies, depending on what part of the country you reside. I know most around my area are 250-400.(this range doesn’t include blues and fawns) I have a chocolate and I didn’t pay 500 for him and he is an excellent dog. But…I will always say Buyer Beware. Don’t buy the first pup you see. Just as you are shopping around for that pup, also shop for a breeder that you like and feel comfortable with. Also, make sure that this is the absolute breed for you. Do some research. Trust me it comes in handy! Before I got my first Min Pin I read everything I could get my hands on. I THEN decided it was the breed for me. Haven’t looked back since!
Petfinder.com and your local Min Pin Rescue is a good start. I agree with Yogi… You can get a good healthy CKC and AKC pup for under 500.00. You will not find a Minature Doberman Pinscher at any price — because they do not exist! Min-Pins have ABSOLUTELY NO DOBERMAN in them.
Perhaps before buying one, you need to do a little research first to really know the breed.
